He didn't look great and was unsold in the auction in 3rd season end. So RCB started their 4th season with early losses and they took a gamble on Gayle and since then, they have never looked back. It's really important to remember the history and how lucky both Gayle and RCB were.

Something to do with captaincy, management and slowness of Eden wicket :agree: You can't DEMAND Gayle to do the routines on each match day. That's where Ray Jennings has done well. He has given CG his space, even though RJ himself is a shrewd coach. BTW, Gayle missed the entire season 1 and was only available for 50% of the tournament in SA. :om:

Anyways, it always interesting to rewind back to the past and understand how lucky it is now currently. Gayle situation not so long time ago was exactly similar to what Bopara is experiencing TODAY. Bopara basically now is an unwanted player and not needed at all in IPL.
