On long road to full recovery, Aaron takes first step

The last competitive outing for Varun Aaron came in May last year in the Delhi Daredevils uniform. It's IPL season again, and the express pacer would've loved to steam in on the Ferozshah Kotla and add firepower to his beleagured franchise. Instead, Aaron's been cooling his heels at Bangalore's NCA recovering from the surgery that he underwent to fix the stress fracture to his back. On Thursday, the Jharkhand fast bowler will complete two months since he went under the knife in England. And for now, Aaron's pleased about taking baby steps towards resuming full training. "The surgery was successful. The doctors there revealed that I should be fully fit in six months' time. So that should mean, that I will be raring to go in August," Aaron said. If things go to plan, then he could be in the reckoning for India's tour to South Africa in November. But Aaron is not looking too far ahead and neither is he regretting the year spent away from cricket. The surgery, he claims, has brought solace. "I'm not looking at it negatively. Finally it feels like the healing process has begun. I've been cycling and doing basic stretches for now. I start running next month and hopefully will begin bowling by June. This is the best frame of mind I've been in over the last year or so," said Aaron, who has played one Test and four ODIs for India so far. He, however, has been following the fortunes of his team, and even met up with Delhi coach Eric Simons when the Daredevils traveled to Bangalore. "I also have been in touch with Joe Dawes (India's present bowling coach), and Dennis (Lillee) has called me on a couple of occasions following the surgery. It's good to have such support," added Aaron.

They wasted 6-8 months to get that surgery done. He could not get proper sports medicine treatment facilities here in India.

Good news for him, DD will not make it to Champions League either so he can fully focus on playing the initial part of the domestic season to see how fit he is for the workload of international cricket. Aus ODI series should be his target.

I am glad he didn't return from injury in a twenty20 tournament straight. It cna really mess him up. Hopefully by the time he's fully fit, he will be playing some 50 overs or 4 day cricket where he will be bowling long spells which will be good for his return then a format in which he just gets to bowl a maximum of 4 overs.

Not easy - it will require at least a decade to build any sort of credibility. Basic health care in India is great but advanced health care is nowhere close to the state-of-the-art. You would know, wouldn't you? :winky:

If foreign coaches can be called, why not foreign doctors too? Sab mil baat ke kha bhi sakenge
