Gambhir and Yuvraj get the axe - CT Squad

I think they dropped Gambhir for sledging at Rahul Dravid yesterday. In place of vijay they can just play dinesh Karthik in the playing xi. So this squad is not too bad. We have enough variety in the squad. Whether we can win the trophy or not with this squad is the big question.

Same was said about him before Australia test series and that he was not scoring runs in FC and yet he turned out to be the highest run scorer in that series. In any case' date=' I dont think he will play in the side.[/quote'] so now you are using a test record for ODIs? So what? Yuvraj was dropped because he has a poor test record? He should never play in the ODIs because of it.?

could have gone with Shami.
Problem is Shami has virtually no experience bowling at death. All because of Gambhir stubborn idioticity :banghead: Whereas Vinay has been one of the best death bowlers in this IPL so far. Selectors have probably gone for the reliable and safe bet instead of the adventurous one IMO P.S I too agree with ur choice but just looking from selectors perspective

Over the years dont mean jack when they are not in form. What you are saying is a mistake of selecting players based on reputation and hence Sehwag and Gambhir were persisted for so long and hence India had to lose many games. Its funny how people protest that non performing players have been selected and they are backed due to politics and yet they protest when they are dropped.
going into the 2011 WC Yuvraj was in such bad form that many people questioned his place in the side - look what happened once the big tournament started. These guys may not be in good form but once the tournament starts, they usually click. Vijay has done nothing to deserve a place.

So your saying India should have left Yuvi out due to poor form before 2011 WC. :giggle: He was player of tournament contributing with either bat or ball in all 3 knockouts as well.
Stop harping about World Cup. Its been more than 2 years. This is what I said about resting on past laurels. Can you mention one innings Yuvraj played in the shorter format in the last 2 years which would warrant him a place in the side ? Even his bowling has gone down. Dont get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Yuvraj and he was a big contributor in World Cup win but dropping him is hardly a surprise decision.

Which begs a question, do selectors have any vision or are they playing musical chairs much like Pakistani selectors do? Rahane, Shami replaced Sehwag and Vinay in the previous series and all they got were 2-3 games to prove themselves and now they've been dropped

The bottomline if simple You either use IPL form or International limited overs form (as this is a limited overs tournament) you cant use one criteria for one player and use another criteria for another.

Problem is Yuvraj is not fit. So it's better if he takes a year off and trains and get's proper physical therapy and practices more. Then in 2014 if he's fit he can be selected for tour's and t20 world cup.

He smoked Pakistani bowlers in a t20 game, the best in the business. Not good enough? And yes after his return he's played a massive no. of 8 games. If thats all thats needed to prove ur worth. Whats Rohit doing in the XI?

As if he has played much. Hit 72(36) after his comeback in a T20 against Pak

Lol just check what I have been saying in this thread. Yuvi ahead of Vijay any day of the week Just saying they have picked him based of test form ( not becoz of Srini mama or any other reason) which I agree is poor decision

I agree. He is not fit and rushed back into the team after recovering from cancer. He was selected in the test team where he did poorly. He didnt do well in the England or Pakistan ODI series either. He had one good knock in a T20 against Pakistan but apart from that, nothing much. His bowling has gone down also and has failed even in IPL.

and lets be honest Yuvraj is averaging 23 with the bat in the IPL with a strike rate of 130 considering he is playing for a **** Pune side with no support as such those are ok numbers. Gambhir is average about 32 in the IPL at a strike rate of 125. Those are actually good numbers.

Agree with a lot. Apart from crapthan and Vinay Shami did really well in odis. Looked real prospect. WTF did he do to deserve to get dropped. Would defo have picked Shami. Agree with all batting decsions. Yuvi is finsihed

Vinay is a good death bowler.

fair enough. But i want to make it clear i am deeply unhappy over the selection of Irfan and Vijay for me Gambhir and Yuvi should have been in there. Rahane fair enough he has not been in the best of form. I can understand why they axed him as Dhavan is better at the moment
