Time for the BCCI to be brought under RTI ambit?

If the board is really serious, it should voluntarily propose to be brought under RTI. Some areas like selection committee discussions can be excluded and the actual modalities worked out, but there us an urgent need to clean up the system and make it more transparent and it has to start from the top. Surprisingly not one media outlet grilling Srini or Shukla has asked this question.

yes i agree with sane Indian. Either they refuse their status as a charity and start paying income tax with accounts (proper accounts) or they should be part of RTI, they cant have the best of both worlds.

RTI is a step in the right direction. Irrespective of weather it helps or not, get the BBCI under the RTI ambit.

Jeez! People always look for a silver bullet to every problem. RTI may not be a panacea to corruption but will help curb some amount of corruption at least. It's a right thought process but unfortunately that can't be done since it is a private body. However, if BCCI were honest and interested in the credibility of the game they will themselves bring in their version of RTI.

BCCI got richer only once it won case against DoorDarshan (Prasar Bharti) in 1993 or 1996 which was squeezing the life out cricket under that crap and outdated The Indian Telegraph Act, 1885 . BCCI has to remain autonomous to function outside the frame work of Indian Politics.There are many faults with BCCI but it is still the best thing going forward for Indian cricket.

The fact that Jaitley, shukla and Farooq are in the same room and Bcci runs fine is proof that politics is not brought to the board room. They do however bring in corruption :((

Yes politicians are there to get their share but it is still people like Srnivasan, Dalmia and Shanshank Manohar whom many of people may not like but they are in game lot before money came into cricket. These guys were preceded by guys like Raj Singh Dungarpur, Scindia, Ac Muthiah most of them were born wealthy and were mostly in for love of game and status. There have been exceptions like Pawar who is a crook but these crooks have associated with cricket only for money.But if we want to keep guys like Pawar to a minimum we need to keep Govt involvement to minimum. BCCI has one of best Constitutions as a sporting body in India. As you said state heads are politicians those crooks but those are all in for getting their share but they don't have final say in BCCI matters. It is not like Indian Olympic Association where guy like Kalmadi who is a crook RTI is noble act in principle but like many other acts it is just hog wash. This transparency which everyone is talking about where was this hue and cry before 1998 When BCCI was in debt or no money in its coffers. Where was this media which is crying for RTI now then. No one cared but due to some due diligence of some people they have created this monster now and everyone wants a piece of it including media. Is this fricking media doing anything about Hockey which is in utter doldrums no, they want their ratings so they want to ride this golden horse called cricket.

Runs fine like India does; Islands of excellence in a vast ocean of mediocrity, incompetence & corruption.

Its impossible to completely eliminate spot fixing from any sport because some individuals will always be tempted to earn money when they have the chance. Greed is a part of some individuals' DNA. From the perspective of the boards, its practically impossible to keep track of 160-170 cricketers in a big event like IPL or in a World event to find out if they are indulging in spot fixing or not as it would require massive man power and resources. Despite a few individuals getting caught recently, its very tough to identify the culprits and build a case against them. That's why these spot fixers look at it as an easy way of earning money without too much risk. The best that anyone can do is for the police force or detective agencies to look for leads, find out if anyone is involved, punish them severely so that it acts as a deterrent for others.

As far as I know, BCCI is no longer a charitable organisation. During the Tharoor controversy, the IT dept. revoked it. They paid tax last year. In fact this is one of their argument for refusing RTI.
