indiaregulator Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 I've just looked at the iternary for both the teams for the rest of 2013 and whole of 2014: England have a test to go vs New Zealand and then 10 ashes tests vs Australia. After that England play Sri Lanka at home for 2 tests followed by a 5 match test series against India at home. South Africa have 2 tests vs Pakistan in the UAE. After that they have 3 vs india in South Africa and then 3 tests vs Australia at home and then a 2 test away vs Zimbabwe. To finish off they have a single test in 2014 vs West Indies at home. So England have 18 test matches until 2014 South Africa have 11 Keep in mind however Steyn currently has a 30 wicket advantage. Out of the two, who do you think will be the first to reach 400 test wickets?
indiaregulator Posted May 20, 2013 Author Posted May 20, 2013 It's not obvious at all. Steyn plays in UAE for 2 tests which if what they did last time is reflected will be flat highways. In the meantime Anderson gets to bowl to a very crap batting outfit for 10 tests in a row. Furthermore, Anderson will have played 12 tests before Steyn has played his 3rd.

saneindian Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Going by recent performances, Anderson in his last 18 tests 65 wickets, so he will reach 365 wickets at best (may retire before that though) Steyn in his last 11 tests 53 wickets, so Steyn would have gone past Beefy by then

Wont be surprised if he gets more. Took 36 in 10 Ashes tests in 2009 and 2010 when he was at his peak. Doubt he will better that. In fact, I would be surprised if he plays all 10.

And back then the Aussie lineup wasn't horseshit. :facepalm: 2010 was the best year for him bowling wise - in 2011 and '11, took 92 wickets@24 in 19 tests In 2012 and 2013 so far, 65 wickets@28 in 18 tests...some peak this is :hysterical:

A peak is defined as 'the most productive period' for an athlete. In cricket terms that would mean making lots of runs or taking lots of wickets. 92 in 19 vs 65 in 18 (57 in 17 before ths match). If your idea of a bowler's peak is 3 wickets per test, good luck to you.
