" they lost Dravid,Ross,Kumble,Uthappa etc still the fanbase is as strong as ever." Uthappa and Ross weren't much of impact players for RCB season..they had couple of good innings.. Take out Gayle/Kohli and put in DD/PW..RCB crowd might take DD/PW as home team :giggle:
both Uthappa and Ross were very good for RCB in both seasons.

Leaving the core group is a big mistake made by all franchises except CSK. David Hussey mentioned about David Miller being permanent for PKXI. They should retain the core players and look for good domestic talents. More importantly good captain.

I think the franchizes should be given the option of retaining 2 domestic and 2 foreign players if they want to. That will at least give them a chance to retain their core identity, but will also provide struggling franchizes to rebuild their team. KKR had a disastrous 1st three seasons in the IPL, mainly because their Pakistani picks could not even participate. But the auction in 2011 gave them the opportunity to revamp their roster and they became champions a year later. At the same time, I cannot imagine a CSK team without MSD and Raina. I am sure a lot of the mafia fans feel the same way about Pollard, Rohit etc. It is going to be hard for me to recreate the sense of attachment I have with this CSK team, if next year's team is full of fresh faces. The IPL people need to recognize and respect that.

I'm strongly against this concept of shuffling teams like this every 3 years or so. Every team needs to have a core group of players who stay with the team for several years otherwise teams won't be able to build a fanbase. The reason why CSK are so successful both on the field as well as the most profitable and popular team is because they have retained most of their squad since the first IPL unlike most of the other teams, this kind of shuffling along with the BCCI's tendency to terminate teams like they did with DC and KTK will make fans lose interest in the IPL. Many already believe the IPL is a scripted event like pro wrestling and these auctions do remind me of yearly WWE draft lotteries where they used to(not sure if they still do since I don't watch prowrestling as much anymore) shuffle rosters of both shows. This really hurts the credibility of the league, they're ruining their own product. Of course as a CSK fan I wouldn't want this to happen since they've been by far the most successful IPL team in history but CSK have always been clever at the auctions because unlike most of the other teams CSK's management have been involved with Cricket for a long time so I've no doubt that they'll probably end up doing well at the auctions as usual but overall this kind of shuffling is not good for the IPL, it makes me and many others lose interest in it.
