How can teams build their brand if they constantly keep changing the players? If we want to even try and touch the status of football leagues then retention is the must.

If they want they can again go all out for the players in the auction. Why deny the chance to other teams to have big players

Which team was denied? Every time had the option to bid on Dhoni & raina in auction 1 (except Pune who are now out). The other teams bid like fools 3 years back while CSK bought back everyone.

Actually big players are not enough. Big captain is a must. Gauti could do that just for one season. Gilly did for one season. Warnie did for one season.

I agree with this. If they keep changing players all the time, it wouldnt make any sense for fans to follow these teams or even players to be committed for a team. You have to stick to a core of around 7-8 players and let a fan base grow who will grow to support these teams.

That is why it won't happen. One season you root for kohli and next season you are against kohli..

They did it once in 2010 when Pune, Kochi were added. If new teams come into the fray, they may have to do it again which will be a wrong move. They should stick with 8 teams and have an auction for Pune players. That will improve the quality of the competition.

In the first edition PKXI had 11 international players. RR hardly had any.. Mostly fringe players led by a retired spinner. So big players don't mean big wins. On paper CSK is not that a formidable side. Even this year Royals on paper is an ordinary side. But they gel well as an unit. Going for good domestic talents will help them more than big tickets.

It should be 8 imo 4- overseas 4- locals Some commentator (I think Doull) made a valid point that teams need to have some identity. KKR of first 3 season seems like a total different team to KKR in the last 3 seasons. And you can see how they've just clicked in 1 season while been totally abysmal in the other 5. Whereas SRH despite being a new franchise still had the fan base as they retained all DC players. Even CSK have shown why continuing with core players is good choice.

There will be new team,no?Why should it denied the chance to have best players. Even on players perspective, they were bought very cheap but now are worth much more. They deserve to get the money

Simply because existing franchises showed faith in IPL when it began and didn't just join the party after it became a money spinning machine? And even from fans perspective, it will be a mess if every 3 years, the core of the team is not same.

I still think the bcci need to involve the English players. They are world champions in 2010 and are clearly better than some of the aussies on parade. Newer franchises can stock up on good international caliber players like Jos Buttler.

that should be upto the owners,no?If they want to retain core for fanbase, they should outbid rest of the bidders and win them back. Why should it be a given? anyhow I dont think it matters much to fans.Ross Taylor once used to be darling of Bangalore now same guys root for Gayle. they lost Dravid,Ross,Kumble,Uthappa etc still the fanbase is as strong as ever.

" they lost Dravid,Ross,Kumble,Uthappa etc still the fanbase is as strong as ever." Uthappa and Ross weren't much of impact players for RCB season..they had couple of good innings.. Take out Gayle/Kohli and put in DD/PW..RCB crowd might take DD/PW as home team :giggle:
