gaurav92 Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 World Cup still remains the best tournament. But Champions trophy as the name suggests are only meant for the Top 8 teams. Its the second best tournament :nice:
NareshK Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 World Cup should be like CT, that is only the best teams playing against each other and top 4 qualifying for Semis and every match being crucial for teams. That way, the competition will be intense and best team will end up winning the trophy. Too many minnows and inconsequential games in the first round makes a tournament boring.
ExpressPace Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 they proved they didn indulge in such things :cantstop: unlike amir, butt, kaneria, asif, rana.....oops the list goes on btw have you guys got enough funds to start your IPL xerox tournament :two_thumbs_up: Abby chutia kesi aur ko banaa, india is hub of fixing :finger:
JaFanatic Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Abby chutia kesi aur ko banaa' date=' india is hub of fixing :finger:[/quote'] I have many talents, but giving a **** is not one of them :agree: tell these stories to your countrymen :two_thumbs_up:
adi B Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 of course wc,but it doesnt matter tbh as we have won both the trophy along with wt20 same as windies :beach:
trundlerNO1 Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 showing again why this tournament is more exciting than WC No nonsense minnows= excitement
zumi Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 it''d be boring though maybe, though if it spreads the game of cricket then maybe worth paying the price once every two years.
vvvslaxman Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Too short a tournament. There is no real build up. towards final. 4 teams will be out of race after just 3 matches.
bulbul Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Too short a tournament. There is no real build up. towards final. 4 teams will be out of race after just 3 matches. It's because this tourney always seen as a additional burden in FTP. Even when conducted in India its not given any special preference. I guess World cup name what matters rather than the format or competitiveness.
StriKe Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 What a about league like type? India playing against 7 team and top 4 teams playing with Qualification 1/2 and Elimination ? Sounds lame though :giggle:
Clarke Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Yea, no Farah Khan/jumping jhapak, liquor barons & bollywood stars makes it boring.
ganeshran Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Cant help if people take pointless ODI matches seriously. Neither does this tourney have the stature of the World cup, nor the thrill of test cricket. Good that the World test championship will take replace the next iteration :hatsoff:
Crookbond Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 I can't see how Champions Trophy can be "meaningless". It's almost a semi World Cup.
trundlerNO1 Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Too short a tournament. There is no real build up. towards final. 4 teams will be out of race after just 3 matches. This format is the best, should replace WC That it makes so interesting, every match has meaning to it Worldcup group stages are a joke, you are certain to qualify for knockout matches baring you play reallly really SHYTEEE. Quality matters not Quantity for me
ganeshran Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 I called it meaningless because it lacks any historical significance whatsover. Like a bilateral series, people follow the action during the tournament only to forget all about it a couple of weeks later. I guess ICC started the trophy to capitalize on the boom of LOI viewership in cricket. With the World T20 catching on since 2007 and grabbing a share of the LOI crowd, the Champions trophy lost its purpose and has rightly been discontinued in favour of the World Test championships.
Jersey #10 Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 It's a mini-world cup I enjoy it ten folds more than the jhampik jhapaks etc.
Crookbond Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 OK - But, I guess it provides far more intensity than meaningless bilateral ODI series.
