CG Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 1. Smith averages 31 in 44 ODIs in the last 3.5 years (2010 onwards). If 31 is a good enough average, then I have nothing more to say. 2. You don't get it, do you? The point is Kallis has played hardly 35% of the total matches SA has played in the last 2-3 years. It means SA aren't dependent on Kallis really. 3. Well, since 2012, Steyn ranks 5th in terms of wickets. He has the worst avg among all SA bowlers who have taken atleast 10 wickets. Even Klienveldt has a better avg than Steyn. http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=2;spanmin1=01+Jan+2012;spanval1=span;team=3;template=results;type=bowling 2.They selected kallis AfterAll And kallis Averages 65 vs india. His allround skills cannot be replaced. 3.Forget stats of 12 odis.Steyn will walk in to any odi side.

Lol, yet another strawman argument.
tweaker Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 The competion for places has put many players on the edge .If they do not perform,Sehwag.Gambhir,Harbhajan,Yuvraj r waiting to pounce on their places.Fast bowling is the weak link ant there is no specialist death over bowler
Sidhoni Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 How's that relevant when we too have just 2 from the WC winning 11 playing here! I think we have 3 from the final : Dhoni, Kohli and Raina Add Ashwin and we have 4 from the 15 man squad
Jersey #10 Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Dhavan just hit a green patch at the right time. It won't take time before the lawn of averages catches up and we start going down hill
Precambrian Posted June 13, 2013 Author Posted June 13, 2013 I think we have 3 from the final : Dhoni, Kohli and Raina Add Ashwin and we have 4 from the 15 man squad Yes, but that also means 11 new players in the squad from the WC winning team just 2 years back. That is a significant amount of churn indeed.
vvvslaxman Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 India is a form based side... once couple of guys at the top get rolling everyone will get rolling. Even bowlers. This is one of those series. We haven't got the level of Australians who won three world cups in a row. They had guys consistently stepping up for them for years not just one tournament.

I think its more about confidence than form.
