His defense seems pretty good to me. He was hardly playing and missing on defense
yeah when there is no swing. if he goes aggressive like this in south africa, i dont expect him to score more than 30.

im not saying he looks completely clueless or anything' date=' but you have to agree that he always looks like he is in a rush. misjudging deliveries can happen with that mindset[/quote'] The rush may be because he is right now playing in ODI's..... but agree with you, we can comment only after the SA series....

tbh he is weak against short ball bowled at body and his high backlift will be under scrutiny in SA. nonetheless brilliant player
Dhawan is not weak against the short ball. 1) He has enough time to play them. 2) If the short balls are below his shoulder, he is a good puller and rolls his wrists. 3) If the short balls are above his shoulder, he has a tendency of hooking them in the air sometimes, without rolling his wrists. He was rolling his wrist to the high deliveries in the test match but in LOIs he does not, maybe because he wants to hit a six. Nevertheless, he needs to change this and play the hooks towards the ground. 4) He is a good cutter, whether it is the conventional cut or the upper cut. 5) He is a good leaver of short balls when he decides to leave them.

u basically also described batting technique of pujara against short ball :P he is similar a compulsive hooker who has lots of time and confidence (some times over confident ) .. with dhawan only problem i see is against bowlers like philander in good bowling conditions otherwise he is class ftb and i always knew he will do really well in odis ..

Weak would be if he was getting out or taking hits to balls at his body. He is avoiding them' date=' so should be ok[/quote'] he got out v Aus warm up game to that, got lucky couple of times v SA with Morkel being too in,and got dropped by Roach its not as big a problem as Raina but surely something to work on

Pujara also has similar strengths and weaknesses against short balls. He has a lot of time to play the short ball and sometimes does not roll his wrists if the deliveries are above shoulder height. I think that both Dhawan and Pujara would overcome this issue as it is more a tendency issue and not an ability shortcoming.

this is not really an weakness in cricket ur most valuable shot ends up getting u out more than anything.. its all about how much risk they wanna take.. imo i only will call it weakness if it effects u mentally and spoils ur game overall like with raina now a days cos of short ball hei s losing his good shots of front foot as he is always expect shorter one.. with these guys its matter of perfecting shot pujara already showed vs australia that he worked on it.. dhawan now leaves ball much more..and still goes forward without any hesitancy..so imo its all good !
