surajmal Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Mickey Arthur has been sacked as Australia's head coach less than three weeks before the start of the Ashes. Cricket Australia is yet to officially announce the decision but the chief executive James Sutherland and general manager of team performance Pat Howard are due to hold a press conference in Bristol on Monday morning (UK time) to confirm the move. http://www.espncricinfo.com/the-ashes-2013/content/current/story/644797.html Nice Timing.
cowboysfan Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 this is the best decision the aussies have made in a while.
Ultimate_Game Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Good riddance for Aussies. Arthur was taking them nowhere and I've no clue why he was hired in the first place.
Ultimate_Game Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I don't understand how guys like Arthur and Mike Hesson (kiwi coach) were not fired long ago. Arthur splintered the Aussie team on a tour and Hesson's incompetent handling of Ross Taylor nearly turned away one of the few quality players in their set up away from NZ cricket. Hiring coaches/managers akin to Buchanan looks good on paper but you got to figure out Buchanan had ATGs like McGrath, Warne, Gilchrist, Ponting, Waughs, Martyn, Hayden etc. in his team otherwise we all know what would have happened. A mentally challenged baboon could have coached that group and Warne has already told us what he thought of that guy and I'm inclined to side with Warne on the topic. But when you don't have players of the caliber of the great Aussie team of early 2000s, copy-cat Buchanan coaches actually make things worse as Aussies and kiwis found out.
gattaca Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Still they will loose Ashes. It will be a whitewash. But might help them in long term. The team has been on decline for years now. World cricket was different when aussies were doing good there were far ahead of every one. Remember 2003 and 2007 worldcups and also the ashes except the one where Mcgrath wasnt there. But the competitiveness in world cricket has gone along with their decline.
Precambrian Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 He has lost the trust of his players long back. They have openly started to defy him (homework & Warner). The timing obviously sucks. CA are trying to fix a cut leg with a bandage but something is better than nothing.
yoda Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Smart move. We are stuck with Fletcher forever I think.
CoverDrive Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 good move. but with 10 back to back ashes coming up and the endless build up we are really going to be sick of these two countries

In the aftermath of 4-0 by Aus and 2-1 at home to England i am sure he would have been axed by most major test playing nations.
Cricashfaq Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Now Shane Watson, Mitchell Johnson, James Pattinson and Usman Khawaja can celebrate. GOOD NEWS FOR THEM!! CONGRATULATIONS GUYS...
StriKe Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Malcolm Conn @malcolmconn 5h #CRICKET UPDATED: Darren Lehmann new coach after Mickey Arthur sacked
Sachin=GOD Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 good decision to appoint Lehman. BTW Dean Jones was set to be in contention a few years ago - has that "terrorist" comment got to do with him no longer even being in contention or its because they have seen him as a NDTV expert :hmmm:
StriKe Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Michael Vaughan @MichaelVaughan 7m I am presuming @darren_lehmann is in as player coach!!!!!??? Bat number 5!!? #bait Michael Vaughan @MichaelVaughan 29m For the 1st time in Months I am worried about Australia... If Darren Lehmann is the coach he will get them right .. #Ashes2013
Crookbond Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I feel sad for Mickey Arthur but to be quite honest, Clarke has survived due to TINA factor.
The Realist Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 He still achieved a better test record with Aus than Fletcher has with Ind :cantstop:
Lord Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I feel sad for Mickey Arthur but to be quite honest' date=' Clarke has survived due to TINA factor.[/quote'] why?wasnt he one who started all this homework thing? If you treat players as school kids, expect nothing better.I dont think results were the only reason for his sacking Clarke should hv gone too yes agree
