They gave an option "arrest" or "get off the plane" . If she had to go somewhere urgently , she cannot possibly get off. Atleast i would have expected her to be nicer to them.

All airlines have rules about not using phones during take off and landings

But, it's not endangering anyone's life, property or pursuit of happiness. It's only a nuisance. There is no reason for the deputies to go all ghetto on her. They are treating her like she's a terrorist. They should've just refused to fly the plane until she put her phone down and watched the other passengers shout her down.

They are not cast and stone.

But, different laws must be enforced in different ways. For instance, I've never agreed with hand-cuffing an old guy who is arrested for running a ponzi scheme. What is the purpose of that? Other than to create a scene? This falls in the same category. Added in edit: So how do you feel about illegal immigrants? Do you support rounding them up, cuffing them and shoving them across the border? After all, they are breaking the law.

People who don't care about other passengers and create scenes and cause avoidable delays for others don't deserve to go by public transport. Make your own arrangements you idiots.How difficult is it to follow simple rules like keeps phones off? It is not like a bursting bladder emergency. Stupid woman !

By standing up, I meant go through legal channels itself. However, sometimes a "push" is needed and these instances help. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do. :winky: You require both kinds of people particularly in India where "Apna Kaam Bunta, Toh Bhaad Mein Jaaye Junta" attitude is shown in full effect.

From what I gather (and I'm not a science person), they ask you to switch off your cell phones cause the signals they transmit/receive may interfere with the signal sent by the communication devices on the plane. There must be some truth here. Otherwise we would not see I-pads, I-phones and some android phones come up with airplane mode. A myth fooling a layman is one thing, but for a well established corporate which spends $$$$$ on R & D , to accept the same seems highly unlikely. Just thinking out loud.

The do not ask/request you ; they force you. 2. No the signals DO NOT interfere with communication devices on the plane (hence myth). 3. Devices come with "Airplane Mode" for user convenience and it can not be used as an indicator to believe a non-existent reality. Their sole job is to make money and they provide a feature which user convenience PERIOD.

Why take a risk? +1 Besides worldwide the airlines put in a lot of effort to announce and enforce it. I bet if it was not necessary...they would be putting the cabin crew to better use.
