CSK Fan Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 He is no Dale Steyn. Steyn is once in a lifetime athlete who can bowl for continous spells at a pace Akram could only dream of. There is no comparison. Eh, where are you getting these things from? Despite suffering from diabetes in later part of his career, Wasim was one of the most athletic and fit cricketers of all time

Wasim is 130's is all I saw. If that is the benchmark you want to use.

Dale is 31, wasim when he was 31, ie, aroung 1997-98 he also was cranking out 90mph balls Sent from my GT-S5830D using Tapatalk 2
Muloghonto Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Like I mentioned indiscriminate use of steroids and doctoring the ball gave him a huge advantage. It is more than a minor detail for me and is an ethics issue at that level. I never said he is bad but Bhuvi has better control and more swing. Just is 3-5 km slower. Err no.akram had way more control, pace and more swing both ways from both sides of the wicket. Bhuvi has decent accuracy and a big inswinger but thats it. Again, doctored balls is not a factor in new ball bowling and everyone accused them of doctored old balls for reverse swing, not new ball doctoring. And with the new ball he was way better than bhuvi Sent from my GT-S5830D using Tapatalk 2
express bowling Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 B->There have been very few true express bowlers in cricket. Since I've been watching cricket, i can only state that Jeff Thompson, Michael Holding, Shoaib Akhtar & Brett lee are express in the sense of bowling consistently over 150kph. Except for Michael Holding, i don't rate any of them in the same category of threat as many other bowlers because none of them (except Holding) could sustain that pace bowling 7-8 over spells. Bowlers like Akram, Marshall, Ambrose, Donald, Waqar, Akram were all in the consistent 145-148 kph bowlers (ie, 90-92mph bowlers) in their prime. Akram was not the fastest but he could definitely bowl in the speeds of Dale Steyn. Except because he was a God of swing bowling and the ball swings the most in the 135 kph mark, that is where he mostly bowled his stock balls. He used his pace as a shock and awe tactic, sometimes sending down 2-3 overs of dizziying fast bowling, 90-92mph easy, follwed by swing bowling but mostly, sneaking in a fast ball or two per over and mostly letting the ball swing around in the 85mph zone. He is the most complete fast bowler I've seen because the man had more skills than any other fast bowler. The only thing Akram couldn't do, is bowl in the 155-160kph corridor. Everything else- he could do. he was peerless swing the ball. he was almost as good as Walsh when it came to pinging the batsmen back with fast-medium bouncy 'heavy balls'. he could bowl fullish at 90-92mph and just rely on seam movements almost as well as Donald. And he could make the ball talk like no other in the air. There are many non-pakis who rate Akram as the most complete fast bowler ever and its not without its credibility. Akram is easily one of the best pacers I have seen in my 30 years of watching cricket. He was truly a complete pacer .... very exciting to watch. He could bowl outswing, inswing .... both the conventional and reverse kind... , get seam movement both ways, bowl great yorkers and bouncers, set up batsmen, was very accurate and did all this at good pace. I agree with you in this aspect. But, how do you know that he bowled at 145 to 148 k in his faster spells when there were no speed guns used regularly before 1999 ? Makes no sense. In 1999 Akram was 33 yrs old ... not that old. Yet, he rarely bowled more than 130 to 138 k. He was surely capable of bowling fast spells in his prime but was mostly a lively paced bowler with good bouncers.

Swing is good but the lateral movement is no more than Bhuvi. Steyn in his 30's is very fast, much faster than Akram.
rkt.india Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Akram was mostly fast medium in 85-88k range like James Anderson, not in Steyn range. He was slower than Waqar in his prime.

CG Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 He is no Dale Steyn. Steyn is once in a lifetime athlete who can bowl for continous spells at a pace Akram could only dream of. There is no comparison. Steyn generally bowls between 130-140ks in test and in odd spells cranks up to 145-150ks, Morkel is easily faster than steyn withj johnson and many ohters
CG Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 If your uncles ' date=' aunts, nephew claims that Wasim bowled at 200 then it is upto you to believe it. For me there is no substitute of speed gun. As a matter of fact when Nehra played India had the fastest attack in the world.[/quote'] Do u even read what i wrote why does it matter what speed akram bowled? and how much swing he got.
CG Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Not really high pace but swing. Pace is high enough ,yorkers are generally 140ks+.He got late swing.
CSK Fan Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Not really high pace but swing. Check his balls when he bowls short or full. He used to slip his faster balls in at will and some are beaten for pace

Definitely not in tests. He can do that in shorter format and so could Wasim when he bowled his faster delivery or yorkers
rkt.india Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Check his balls when he bowls short or full. He used to slip his faster balls in at will and some are beaten for pace That was in Australia on pacy and bouncy tracks.
rkt.india Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Pace is high enough ' date='yorkers are generally 140ks+.He got late swing.[/quote'] There is no speed guns so cannot tell the exact pace but they dont look that quick. They were good because of reverse swing. I am not saying he was slow. For me, he was not a 90 mph bowler but in pace range of Jimmy Anderson 85-89 mph which is good enough if you have such skills.
rkt.india Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 145s when? Definitely not in tests. He can do that in shorter format and so could Wasim when he bowled his faster delivery or yorkers Steyn does it in tests too, not all the time but in situations when needed, did it against India in test series. Did it against SL in the first test.
Midfielder Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Another amazing spell by Bhuvi. Wasim who?
