PATNA: Actor-politician ShatrughanSinha on Tuesday dubbed Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar as "prime ministerial material" and said that he wanted to build bridges between the former partners BJP and the JD(U). "Nitish Kumar is PM material. He is among the select few good and successful chief ministers in the country today," Sinha, the BJP Lok Sabha member from Patna Saheb, told reporters at the Jaiprakash Narayan Airport here. Sinha clarified that he was saying so as Kumar was among many leaders qualified for the post. "At the end of the day one can become PM only after being chosen by the party and numbers in the elections," he said. He also said that on the basis of his good personal rapport with Kumar, he would try to build bridges between the NDA and JD(U). Sinha, who served as Union Cabinet minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government, said he was not in favour of the BJP baying for Kumar's blood and calling the break up with JD(U) a betrayal. "One should not burn all bridges as politics is art of possibility and flexibility," the BJP MP later said. "If we are not together today it does not mean we cannot be together tomorrow also," he said. He said he enjoyed a brotherly relationship with the state chief minister who also regarded him with great respect. Sinha, who has been sulking after being denied a place in new election team of Narendra Modi, also praised Kumar for his development work in the state.

Stop praising Nitish Kumar, Yashwant Sinha tells Shatrughan Sinha

Hazaribagh, Jharkhand: Praising ally turned sworn enemy Nitish Kumar has earned Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shatrughan Sinha a rebuke from his own party. Days after the actor-politician described the Bihar Chief Minister as well qualified for the Prime Minister's post, his senior BJP colleague Yashwant Sinha has asked him to "desist" from such statements. "Bihari babu (Shatrughan Sinha) should refrain from making statements at a time relations between both the parties are at an all-time low," said Yashwant Sinha, speaking to reporters at his constituency Hazaribagh in Jharkhand. Another BJP leader was more sarcastic. "The best thing to do with Digvijaya Singh and Shatrughan Sinha is not to respond to what they say. That will in itself be a good punishment for them," said BJP leader Uma Bharati. On Tuesday, Shatrughan Sinha, who is 67, said Nitish Kumar was a fit candidate for the PM's job. "You don't need to have any doctorate for it. He has successfully governed Bihar." Last week, Mr Sinha had also called upon Nitish Kumar, who said the meeting excluded politics and included his health issues specially a fractured toe. Mr Sinha and Mr Kumar share common ground in their apparent aversion to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, widely expected to become the BJP's prime ministerial face. But the bonhomie seems to have upset the BJP after its bitter divorce from Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal United (JD-U) in Bihar. The JD-U ended its 17-year alliance with the BJP over the elevation of Narendra Modi as its campaign in charge in June. Mr Kumar said on Tuesday that there was no question of partnering with the BJP again, even if Mr Modi was dropped as a Prime Ministerial possibility. Mr Modi's detractors outside the BJP accuse him of not doing enough to stop hundreds of Muslims from being killed in the communal violence that rocked his state in 2002. Within his party, the Chief Minister's opponents feel that Mr Modi, hugely popular with party workers, alienates regional parties who have Muslim supporters, greatly diminishing the BJP's chances of forming a coalition strong enough to challenge the incumbent Congress-led UPA.

BJP threatens action against Shatrughan Sinha for praising Nitish Kumar

The BJP said on Wednesday that it will take action against actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha for saying that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is "prime minister material". "BJP will take disciplinary action against Shatrughan Sinha for his statement in favour of Nitish Kumar. It is harmful for the party," party vice-president C.P. Thakur told the media in Patna. Mr Thakur added that the BJP won't stop Mr Sinha if he decides to quit the party. Mr Sinha, the BJP Lok Sabha member from Patna Saheb in Bihar, on Tuesday said that "Nitish Kumar is certainly PM material". He also described Nitish Kumar as a nice human being and a man of principles. "He is a mature politician and a good man." Last week, after Mr Sinha met Nitish Kumar, the chief minister praised him. The mutual words of admiration came despite the BJP and Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal-United parting ways in Bihar and nationally. Mr Sinha has also said that he favours BJP leader L.K. Advani over Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Shatrughan Sinha attacks Narendra Modi again, says Amitabh Bachchan should be President if popularity is any criteria

NEW DELHI: BJP today refused to confront its MP Shatrughan Sinha and even requested the media to "ignore" him in the wake of a series of embarrassing comments by the leader over the last week targeting Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. In his latest remarks, Sinha today said in an interview to a news channel that if popularity was the yardstick for choosing a leader, then actor Amitabh Bachchan should become the President of India. The above comment was a jibe at BJP President Rajnath Singh who has kept reiterating that Modi was the most popular leader in the country. At a time when the party is said to be considering whether to name Modi as its Prime Ministerial candidate, Sinha's comments have come as something of an embarrassment. Sinha even said that senior leader LK Advani was the one best-suited for the PM's post. Asked about Sinha's latest salvo, BJP spokesperson Meenakshi Sinha was cautious in her reaction. "Our party president is aware of these comments and he will take cognisance. I am not authorised to speak on the issue," she said. When pressed for a reaction, she said, "Please ignore Sinha". Sinha, a former Cabinet minister and the sitting MP from Patna Saheb, had earlier praised Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as "PM material". Kumar's JD(U) had recently walked out of NDA in protest against Modi's elevation as BJP's poll campaign chief. Party sources said Sinha is apprehensive that BJP may not give him a Lok Sabha ticket in the forthcoming elections as he has not worked in his constituency and was not accessible to the locals. There are murmurs that Sinha may shift to JD(U) were BJP to deny him a ticket and was thus preparing the ground for such a move through these comments.

In 2000, Shotgun Sinha did his best to ensure Niish Kumar didnt get named as NDA Bihar CM candidate. He felt he was the tallest NDA leader from Bihar and deserved to be CM, the two of them have hardly got along! Then he has a history of tantrums be it praising Lalu when not not made a minister in Vajpayee govt. in 2001 During the last LS elections, he was almost certain not to get BJP LS ticket from Patna Saahib, started praising Soniaji , got the LS ticket and won from the BJP stronghold. Post 2009, has hardly spent any time in his constituency, isn't likely to get the LS ticket. S what does he do? Praise Nitish Kumar at a time when Nitish has been telling the BJP "Ham unhe unki aukaat bata denge". This time though, BJP is not going to give him the LS ticket nor a RS membership. So Nitish Kumar is his best friend! But now that Shotgun
