1983-2011 Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 BHOPAL: A four-year-old dalit boy was allegedly removed from a private school in Bhind district of Madhya Pardesh after other students refused to sit with him in the class. The district administration has ordered an inquiry into the alleged caste discrimination against dalit student. The shocking incident came to light at Gohad tehsil- 70 km from the district headquarters- after boy's father Santosh Valmik sought intervention of local administration. According to Santosh, he had admitted his son Anubhav to National Convent School on July 29. He was given admission after collecting Rs 2,000 as fee. He also received a receipt for it. On July 30 when he went to school for the first time, other students in the classroom allegedly refused to sit with them or share bench with him. Disheartened Anubhav returned home without attending any class and informed his parents about, sources said. When his father went to school and informed the matter, authorities concerned advised him to look for another school reasoning that none of student in the class was ready to sit with him. The school fee was also returned. Annoyed over the dismissal, Santosh approached sub-divisional magistrate and lodged a complaint against the school operator. The matter was reported to district collector MCB Chakravarti, who ordered block education officer to probe the matter. "I have ordered an inquiry into the matter. If its true then no point blaming the school and should look at the wider picture . If a kid going to school is suffering this much discrimination what exactly is the state of the lower caste people living in that region .

hhunaeh Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 The father's name is Santosh Valmik. There was a thread a few days back about valmiki dalits. The kid might be from the same caste. Deep-rooted caste bias, disregard by civic authorites lead to frequent death of sewage workers

And I don't believe this news as I did all of my schooling in very district only and there were enough people from all castes in all of my classes. No objection was ever raised. That is the ground reality. There might be some other reason for which child was asked to leave the school and people decided to make this an issue playing caste card.

I have done my whole schooling in this area and I can say that I had students from all castes in all of my classes from class 1 to class 12th. But people sitting on internet and without even having an idea about where that place is would know more then the person who spent majority of his years at the place.

First school which I went to was the one where I carried used jute bag (bora) to sit on and sat under a neem tree :P

Besides Some people on this forum like to believe there is no discrimination happening. Everything is okay...nothing needs to be changed. All laws to change the status quo are bogus and discriminatory . The very fact that this is your town makes one believe this piece of news. Your views are well known any kind of law that challenges the present injustices.anything that changes the status quo is wrong. no caste discrimination happens...no dowry deaths happen.....men are discriminated.blah blah blah blah.

Caste descrimination happens but knowing the place, I would say it is extremely unlikely that one would not be allowed in school because of caste. That was the case at least a decade ago and I have no reason to believe that situation would have worsened now. Didn't want to derail this thread, but on your other comments, yes dowry death happens but not all the time when a wife dies it is dowry death and currently misuse of dowry law is bigger problem that dowry itself and yes, men are discriminated in many aspects. There have been undeniable hard numbers presented to substantiate that. Few days ago, a thread was posted where a posted gave his first hand experience of the harrassment and injustice he went through. Hardly anybody posted on that. But a spurious news source published something, quoting third party account and people go all up in arms, staking claims of moral superiority. If this is not hyposcrisy then I don't know what would be an example of that. I am out of this.

He was dealt this caste card...he lives this caste card. He is denied the the basic human rights that others don't have to even think about. We should all be ashamed that in this age and time there is a school where children(that is the most shocking and heart breaking part) treat someone in such a humiliating manner. As for that thread...If more people believed him...more people would have reacted. People suffering from draconian laws would have more important things to do than post on message boards on a variety of topics.read his recent previous posts and did not feel the need to respond.

Would like to know, in your opinion, what more important thing they'll have to do? People done by these laws will have to move on with life like any normal being, else they'll not survive. On first part of your post, you are not wrong if it has really happened the way you have described. But given my experience of the area and considering the sensationalism in which indian media indulges in, particularly ToI, I would prefer not to believe what has been written here. It could very well have been the case where child's father had a tiff with scholl principal and decided to teach him a lesson. I am not denying that caste system is very much there but this is a very unlikely occurence.

In this thread, did you wait to know what school principle has to say about all this, before lamenting Indian society ? For how many news items which are posted on this forum on regular basis, we demand to know the complete truth before reacting?then why this rule should be applied to a case where that person is telling his ordeal. I know the reason but stating that would not be most political correct thing to do. People would have courage to discuss these thing on open forum only when things are a bit easy and they came out of panic.
