saneindian Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 This is true with most of the players, Sehwag, Waugh, Cullinan, Ponting etc. everyone infact Inzi and Anwar were better than Sachin on their day. But to be Sachin Tendulkar, you do not need a particular day or particular game you need a consistent and glorified career of 23 years. Afridi's personal opinion so no problem with that but the only thing is that he made this assumption of Lara being the best batsman to whom he has bowled is on the basis of 2 Test MAtches he has played against him. Just 2 Test and out of the 4 innings of those 2 test he himself took Lara's wicket in one of the iinnings of first test and LAra was out on 0 in the second inning of second test so precisely he has made this assumption on basis of 2 innings. With Afridi anything is possible. And the 15 ODIs where Lara killed Pakistan. In those 15 ODIs, Lara scored 611 runs@56 with 2 100s and SR of 87. And its funny you didn't mention Lara hitting 2 100s in each of those 2 tests he played vs Afridi.
putrevus Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 And that's what made Sachin a greater batsman to me. He could always find ways to score runs even when he was not playing his A game. that is one way of looking at things. Other way is if they are both playing their A game who would you take, I would take Lara anytime over Sachin in that scenario.
vamos_rafa Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 that is one way of looking at things. Other way is if they are both playing their A game who would you take, I would take Lara anytime over Sachin in that scenario. You can't keep on playing your A game all the time. There would be faces when one needs to scrape through. That's where Sachin scores. He could be as good as Lara(if not better) in his A game, but was always better when it came to grafting or getting through tough situations. I think Sachin's much more tighter technique served him well in such scenraios. But, as you said, its personal opinion.

According to this logic, best batsmen in the world is none other than Retard because on his day he can score a 37 ball hundred that even Lara cannot do. Great

It is your personal opinion that is fine, I rather have a batsman who I know when is on for a series can reel of 600 to 700 runs or score double hundred and hundred in same match.
Temujin Khaghan Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 everyone has their own opinion there were many greats and legends like bradman, benaud, waugh and lara himself who said that sachin was the best. even lara is one of the greatest of the game and its obvious that he will have many fans... but what i dont like is when people equate ponting with lara and sachin... its unacceptable 1)sachin - lara 2)ponting - kallis (as a batsman) - dravid ===

He should be the best batsman as he is better than all other ON HIS DAY. Isn't that why you rate Lara better than SRT because Lara is better than Sachin ON HIS DAY
Raghav_12 Posted August 9, 2013 Author Posted August 9, 2013 Even Afretard's comment can trigger such candid discussion on ICF...lol..

vijay50 Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Another paki junk who wants to be in limelight. Have you ever seen pakis praising any Indian cricketers. How about I say that Yusuf Pathan is better than Afridi.
vvvslaxman Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 He was the most difficult batsmen I have bowled to in every format of the game. = Everyone is missing this point. Lara could obliterate spinners at will.
Khalpat Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 He was the most difficult batsmen I have bowled to in every format of the game. = Everyone is missing this point. Lara could obliterate spinners at will. With Lara, I always had my finger crossed till he scrores first 15-20 runs. After that Lara was real Lara whom we admire, one of the best footworks and range of backfoot shots. But for first 15 runs it was really a torture to see him jumping all along the crease.
