Era of Fast bowling over?

Actually taking my example of Ishant into account, Ishant has bowled 33665 deliveries in a 7 year period. Holding has bowled 70,000 deliveries in a 17 year period. Sort of backs up my point that todays bowlers are playing a lot more cricket than their counterparts in the amature era. Zaheer khan the leading Indian spearhead for the past decade or so has bowled 75,000 deliveries in a career spanning 13 years to date. He has not even played much cricket in the past year or so and have been really prone to injuries in since 2011. You have to accept that leading bowlers who play across the formats have a much higher workload than in the past. Marshall for example during his later years was basically a show pony trying to make money around the county circuit. He bowled so many cause he had to as he did not have enough in the bank. Same can be said about Holding. He simply went through the motions with the counties. Totally different to when he played for the Windies. The average leading pacer has to play about 10 tests a year 25 ODIs and about 15 T20s. It involves a lot of travelling and is just much more hectic than the bygone days.
Dude, you really need to start presenting facts instead of fiction. I just checked Zaheer Khan's cricinfo profile and he has bowled 31939 + 12745 + 2166 deliveries in FC, List A, and T20s which is around 45,000 deliveries not your fictitious figure of 75,000

Those are runs given by him. Zak has bowled 46850 deliveries.

@outsider just like to point out Brett Lee has bowled 68,000 balls in a career spanning 17 years (many of whom were plagued with injury) Holding has bowled 70,000 balls in a career spanning 17 years Not much difference. I dont know where you got 40,000 balls from.

Era of fast bwoling is coming back,Infact the Era of spin is over. Murali,Warne,Kumble are 3 of the top wicket takers of all time...so more or less mid 90's-2007 was the era of spin where these 3 were more or less the strike bowlers of their teams(Warne debatable) Now look at the spinners of each team India-Aswin,Sir,Ojha Pak-Ajmal,Rehman WI-Naraine,Bishoo Eng-Swann,Monty Aus-lyon,Agar SL-Herath,Randiv NZL-Vetorri(?) Bang-Shakib SA-Tahir,Peterson

and where is the international stats in that? a ball bowled at professional level is a ball bowled.

Now Compare this to the spinners in the 90's-200's period Ind-Bhajji,Kumble SL-Murali WI-Harper maybe??? Eng-Giles,Tuffnell Aus-Warne,Mcgill Pak-Mushtaq,Sqlain Zim-Paul Strang NZL-Vettori in his peak SA-Symcox,Boje Apart from Eng,WI-The spin bowling has gone down in general

Go to the following link for Zaheer Khan's cricinfo profile. http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/player/30102.html 2. Open the calculator application on your computer. 3. Scroll down to the Bowling Averages section on Zaheer's cricinfo profile. 4. Read balls under First Class. You should get 31939. Type that in your calculator. 5. Read balls under List A. You should get 12745. Press the "+" button on the calculator and enter that number. 6. Read balls under T20s. You should get 2769. Press the "+" button on the calculator, enter the number, and press the "=" sign, you should get 46850.

No problem and sorry for the contemptuous post above. I don't have a link, but it's a well known fact that test matches are a subset of First Class matches etc.

And Holding bowled 38877+12662=51539 deliveries and not 70000 :) Out of those 12680+5473= 18153 were in int'l cricket, roughly 36% Same stats for Zak are 31739+12745+2166= 46650 out of which 28061 were in int'l cricket, Roughly 60% of total deliveries he bowled! Perhaps you are doubly counting the deliveries bowled in Tests and ODIs which are already there in stats for FC and List A. P.S already pointed out in posts above.

and i like to point out. Holding has bowled a total of 51539 balls over a 17 year period Zaheer has bowled a total of 46850 balls over a 13 year period So despite my mistake (for which i am sorry) Zaheer has bowled more balls per year than Michael Holding

Yeah, I got the numbers for Holding wrong - was on my phone and the columns were rendering all messed up. But the numbers of Marshall and Imran are accurate.

@outsider those numbers are highly inflated dude. These guys like Marshall Imran etc were basically show ponies for their county sides. They just did not put the effort. County cricket back then was literally a place where the windies bowled could pick a final pay cheque. They had good numbers in the counties cause the players were ****. Its not fair to compare it to the wear and tear of international cricket.

But Zaheer to Holding is hardly an apple to apple comparison. Either compare Zaheer to someone like Kapil or Holding with someone like Lee or Akhtar.

County cricket was very competitive for international players in the 80s. There were only 2 slots available and with the amount of money they were paid, every West Indian player wanted to be part of the action. Calling Imran and Marshall and by extension the likes of Garner, Richards etc. show ponies in the county circuit is serving them huge injustice. Read up their accounts of the effort they put into the game during their years there.
