cricketrulez Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 Seeing CSA's fate as they tried to take BCCI head on and what happened to ECB few years ago, its clear that no one board is able to tangle with BCCI. So the rest of the boards have to work together to introduce any change to the status quo. Option 1: Boycott BCCI and kick them out of ICC. Not really an option as observed by CSA current quandary. It will be case of, surgery is a success, but the patient is dead. Option 2: Implement Woolf report w/o involvement of BCCI. Pool all the revenues besides BCCI's share, distribute it equally among the members. This creates an even playing field for the rest of the members and eliminates their need to dance to BCCI's tune. This will allow the game to become more popular and grow the revenue from the increased popularity and it become a true world wide game. this will also eliminate BCCI's hegemony. Of course, this will mean some short term pain for some of the boards, but it will be a small price to pay for their stated long term goal, i.e., betterment of the sport of cricket. As the say charity begins at home and its about time, the old powers of cricket showed some real leadership instead of paying lip service.
gattaca Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 lol if bcci is kicked cricket wouldnt survive.Atleast for now every board is BCCI's biatch.
cricketrulez Posted September 8, 2013 Author Posted September 8, 2013 lol if bcci is kicked cricket wouldnt survive.Atleast for now every board is BCCI's biatch. Be quite now, I'm trying to save cricket from BCCI.........
G_B_ Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 ECB will go bust if the woolf report is implemented. The major gainers from the Woolf report will be the likes of Zimbabwe. ECB are never going to recover from that. Similar for cricket Aus. Option 2 ruled out. Infact the Woolf report is going to end up destroying county cricket. ECB cannot afford to support 18 counties if the funds are equally distributed. Option 1, will mean that the BCCI will play the ipl for 6 months or so. They will target every player with big sums of money. Its Kerry packer all over again only with the infra and stadia to support it.
kubrickian Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 Without BCCI, cricket will die very quickly in Pak, SL, NZ, Zim etc.

I thought t was only BCCI!

Zap_Brannigan Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 This is more likely to occur 1. BCCI forms ICC 2 with SL, WI, BD, Pak. 2. All major sponsors quit ICC and sponsors ICC 2. 3. BCCI includes all these teams into IPL bodies and makes IPL bigger. 4.3 years later, NZCB declares bankruptcy and struggles with players retiring early to join IPL. Joins ICC 2. 5.ECB and CSA see drop in Ashes popularity due to ashes being played every 6 months. 6. ICC is discarded within a decade of BCCI leaving.

In India now even more women watch cricket bcoz of IPL.
jf1gp_1 Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 1 billion ppl there more lovers for IPL than cricket in general. In India now even more women watch cricket bcoz of IPL. Exactly , year round IPL with top players will fetch more money than series with BD , zim SL or 2 test with SA

CSK Fan Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 If only the BCCI could learn to weild their power with responsibility instead of behaving like spoilt kids
G_B_ Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 @cricketrullzz the woolf report works for teams like sl pak wi nz zim etc who are reliant on icc handouts. Teams like CA, ECB and BCCI who generate more money will be wrecked. For example the BCCI wont be able to support so many ranji teams if revenue is shared.

Its only cricket tragics (enthusiasts) who follow every game and watch it for most part for the love of the game who will care about SA series. About IPL well people have been calling it since first few seasons that it will go down soon, but its S7 and still going strong.

The current cricket revenue system actually puts BCCI under tremendous disadvantage. Currently, BCCI gets only 50% of revenue generated from Indian international team since BCCI only owns the media rights of home series (Remember that 20 years ago, ECB played two-thirds of their games at home). Add to that the revenue lost from rights every year for a couple of months during ICC tournaments since ICC wont let Indian team sponsors advertise during that time. So effectively we are losing money as opposed keeping all the money as in the IPL. Sure we will lose lots of cricket followers but those numbers will be minuscule compared to the people that will still watch. If IPL expands,i believe, BCCI gains more monetarily than what it loses from International cricket with England, Australia and NZ. IPL is just 6 weeks and yet every year, it earns the same revenue as International cricket does for BCCI. Meanwhile ICC will lose 70% of its revenue stream. ICC changed WC formats to keep India in for as long as possible, ICC staged WC matches at absurd times for the sake of Indian viewers, ESPN threatened ICC when India was eliminated early from the 2007 WC...do you really see ICC surviving if BCCI is banned?
