vvvslaxman Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Finishing doesn't mean just while chasing. You can finish innings even when you set targets duh

vvvslaxman Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 No one has screwed Srilanka so much since Prabhakaran Virat Kohli says hi :winky:
vvvslaxman Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 For a lower order batsman that is an inhumane achievement :hatsoff:
maniac Posted September 26, 2013 Author Posted September 26, 2013 This thread is not to Marginalise Dhoni as I said he is hands down India's greatest WK-bat but call him the greatest is nothing but heroworship and clearly the tams have taken to him like sambar(Just kidding),the guy is good even very good but no way is he is GOAT
vvvslaxman Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Bt way Srilanka's record against all countries last 5 years Vs Australia 22 matches won 11 lost 9 more than 50% won vs South Africa 11 matches won 7 lost 4 more than 50% won vs Pakistan 21 matches won 10 lost 10 50% vs West Indies 5 matches won 3 lost 1 more than 50% vs England 8 matches won 4 lost 4 . 50% vs New zealand 7 matches won 5 lost 2 more than 50% They have done a fabulous job against all countries in the last 5 years bar India. So don't suggest scoring against SL is a walk in the park. Ask Rohit sharma. he will tell you how he struggled to go past number of "wides" in SL tour.
jalebi_bhai Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Check his ICC Tournaments record.........not very impressive but still......he is one of India's greatest LOI batsman of all time......
maniac Posted September 27, 2013 Author Posted September 27, 2013 Check his ICC Tournaments record.........not very impressive but still......he is one of India's greatest LOI batsman of all time...... Don't deny that....always said we are lucky to have a player like dhoni, utility wise he is the 2nd best we ever had after kapil ,as a batsmen defintetely top 5 from India in Odis.....but calling him the goat or the best odi player ever is offensive which happens here way too often given the following the Ipl and clt20 have and how often we play srilanka.
vvvslaxman Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 His batting positions in ICC ODI. In 2007 he failed .. against BD and SL. If he had scored you are going to say "he just scored against Srilanka" . In 2011 world cup. 9 ODIs 241 runs 48.20 avge 81.69 Strike rate Hardly poor for a batsman who came at no.6 or later.
Pagalpanti Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Check his ICC Tournaments record.........not very impressive but still......he is one of India's greatest LOI batsman of all time...... Well what good is a record in ICC tournament if you don't have the cup. He played the innings that mattered (along with gambo).. Stats in ODI's hardly matter, its the runs in the important games that count.

Clearly shows that Stats dont always tell the true picture........He had 3 Notouts out of 9 games one of them as I have already stated a brilliant innings in the final. His 2nd highest score was 34 against Ireland. The 2 other N.O's came against the Mighty Netherlands 19* and against South africa 12* in a match where we could have used his mythical finishing and steering the game away from a superior opposition skills where everyone around him were falling like 9 pins. That obviously nullifies the 48 average doesn't it.
maniac Posted September 27, 2013 Author Posted September 27, 2013 ^ANyways why are arguing about DHoni the player...I said he is the best thing to happen to Indian cricket in a while(only as a player) but calling him the Greatest ODI player is B.S

But inspite of such form he came in after two quick wickets to deal with Murali as Murali vs Yuvi could have gone SL's way. He completely neutralized the threat from Murali and Malinga and calmed the dressing room. Dhoni's record in ICC tournaments is an anamoly . Mahela scored 19 runs in the entire 2003 world cup. INzi scored like 23 runs or so in 2003 world cup. They are top order batsmen. Dhoni is a lower middle order batsman who will have varied scenarios to deal with. Dhoni has the highest average of Indian wins by a mile. Dhoni 73.37 Kohli 65.90.. Rest of them below 60. bar Tiwary just 4 matches..(71) Dhoni has scored 5 centuries 30 fifties in the 107 innings he played and India won. That is like a 50 every 3rd match.

He is the greatest finisher. That you can see in Bevan vs Dhoni thread.
The Outsider Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 He was a bit off color througout the tournament.. Dhoni's numbers in ICC tournaments: 7, 51, 28, 0, 29, 0, 3, 31, 34, 19*, 12*, 22, 7, 25, 91*, 27, 0. Except for that 91*, his ICC tournament career is full of crap. Even that 91* was the third best innings of the match.
vvvslaxman Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Dhoni's numbers in ICC tournaments: 7, 51, 28, 0, 29, 0, 3, 31, 34, 19*, 12*, 22, 7, 25, 91*, 27, 0. Except for that 91*, his ICC tournament career is full of crap. Even that 91* was the third best innings of the match. In T20 he sucked both at the international level also at IPL level. I am not even including that. His T20 transformation shaped up only in the last couple of years. In one dayers he has played in just 2 world cups. One INdia got eliminated early. In the other he had an average outing. Those 8 matches should not diminish his otherwise stellar ODI career. Otherwise Andrew Symonds, Lance Klusner would be hailed as ODI batting gods they both average over 100 in ICC ODI tournaments. Inzamam 35 matches 717 runs in ICC tournaments Alan Border 25 matches 452 runs 18.813 avge Mike Hussey 15 matches 156 runs 19.50 avge M Vaughan 14 matches 347 runs 24.85 avge Gayle 20 matches 604 runs 31.79 avge M Yousuf 13 matches 386 runs 32.16 avge Are they any less players as the figures suggest. Considering the batting position of Dhoni that is not a horrible stat. But considering his ability and capability in ODIs those stats are poor. Most of the matches that India played in the world cup were absolute pattas. So we cannot say he struggled because he struggled in tough conditions. In world cup even a hack can find touch and have an amazing tournament or a good player get into a bad run and end up with sorry stats. It is even higher for a lower middle order batsman like Dhoni.
The Outsider Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 ^ I don't consider T20 proper cricket, so didn't include it in the list - it was World Cups and Champions Trophy.
vvvslaxman Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 ^ I don't consider T20 proper cricket' date=' so didn't include it in the list - it was World Cups and Champions Trophy.[/quote'] Don't think he played that much of a CT... Looking up he has played a grand total of 6 CT games in the span of 7 years in 3 CTs. After 2009. Just 3 of them. Hardly an indicator how good a player he is. In the current CT. He had just two outings. In 2009 just one outing. We cannot draw any conclusion from couple of failures there. All we can say is he underachieved there. Someone who has been in top 10 ICC rankings has to have done something right.
