Well there you go Sriram' date=' its not entirely different from what I suggested was it? Frankly I too have been suggesting to kick out oldies from LOI and let them concentrate on test, and that includes Dravid too.[/quote'] Lurks , you are hitting the wrong target. Its not cricketing policy that we are talking about. Its the nature of posts of one particular poster.

Badri will be ideal replacement for Dravid. I've seen him bat. But I just want him to be tested against the international bowler to see how he fares. It is very important.
oh Chandan, u have seen Badri bat ? I agree he is superb, plenty of fire in the belly for success and an absolute never say die attitude. I am sure he will do well now, btw, did you see the innings against South Africa A on Tv or anything ? he was a one man team, and he's bowling too now ! Badri should have been given a slot in the team at least 2 seasons back.

You just cant kick out a player of the class of Dravid after a poor show in one series. the match was rained out, so that leaves 4 innings. In the chandigarh match, he came in the last 8 overs. so that leaves 3 innings, I think in one inning, he got like 40 runs. So he failed in two innings. I.
I wish all fans do this kind of deeper analysis into the performances of players like kaif, Raina et al, and not just for the stars alone. Just for highlighting as an example, if Kaif were to play 3 innings continuously, and have scores of 20 notout off 20 balls coming in at the 45th over, 8 off 10 balls coming in when team was 50-4, and then another game in which India has to chase 210 to win and he doesn't get to bat, guess what happens in the 4th game ? he will be dropped. And no one to speak up for his circumstances or start threads.

Why Kaif jf? He has been given enough chances...he just doesn't have it in him.... He can't better what is has done till now. I would rather try some one new...atleast there we can hope.....
By this logic, Dravid should have never even played 100 ODIs, considering that even after 300 + games he still has only a strike rate of 70 Kaif had never been played at the upper order, never got to play longer innings , and was always the scapegoat if some of the big 3 were returning into the side and someone had to make way. Considering the Natwest finals whcih Kaif won for India, he should have been played more prominently over the next 3 seasons, but never was, and never got due opportunities when in form, to both play in the eleven and also when in the side bat longer

why ?? because kaif and raina are in same class of Dravid?? :D
Yes I feel Md Kaif is a better ODI player than Dravid Do an analysis innings by inngs of both their initial years and if Dravid could be "developed" into anODI player, Kaif was always a natural one.

For a sample here is a first few seasons of Kaif... He still has a striking rate of more than Dravid. Hari, Dravid's game was not suited for ODI but he redefined it few years ago. I believe Dravid still has the passion to deliver what it takes but looks like he needs to sit out for couple of games to sort things out. India should rotate Tendulkar and Dravid in one day series giving them 2-3 games at the most. This will help youngsters to take the mantle gradually from them.

Everyone remembers that a few seasons back he was told he had to do the job of keeper as well if he wanted to stay in the ODI team, which too he did for long and only after his batting and strike rate picked up he became more permanent. My point is he was a never a aggresive stroke player, and so his value to the team was always to bail the team out of holes , like if there is a top order collapse, and we need to play thru 50 overs. Once this core value from him has started declining, then it is time he has to go. Plus his average in ODIs against Australia has never been good, just about 25, I think Again, in tests, like I said before, no two opinions.

I am, and am actually surprised why some of you are not getting it Sriram. If Dravid RETIRES he is gone, finito, history. No coming back. If he is dropped he will come back like Zaheer did, or Ganguly did. What would you much rather have - a team India with NO Dravid ever..or a team India without Dravid for a series or two? xxx
Lurks - I don't think Dravid can make a comeback once dropped - they will look elsewhere. Also, pretty hard to make a comeback to the ODI team - ask Motu. Dravid just looks tired to me and doesn't have that positive attitude (not that he showed it that much in the past). Also, I think this is bit of an over reaction - he just has bad few games. Look how good he was in England. But it would better (I think) that RD concentrates on tests because that's where we need him most. He will probably announce his retirement after we beat the cr@p/bejusus out of the Pakis. :D

No need to retire. But Sachin, Dravid and Ganguly can surely be rotated with only 2 playing in the team at one time. And Dravid can't turn into a bad batsman just because he failed in last 5 innings. Please!! Why do we want the end of our great players is absolutely beyond me!
This was Vengsakar's declared strategy for this particular series but for reasons best known to the decision makers, it has not been implemented perhaps fearing that they could not do so with the might of Australia. I suspect that we will see it happen in the series against Pakistan. Back to the thread, typical short-sightedness from aggirieved Indian supporters to suggest that Dravid ought to be dropped. He might want to take a break for the next two matches in the guise of rotation allowing Gambhir, as an in form batsman, to step in his shoes.

Anakin is just upset that his useless Ganguly has been criticized by you sometime before :D
Nope, I don't mind criticism, but abusing players is different and so is double standard. Worse yet is the holier fairer than thou attitude by the same person. She's angry with me because I showed her hypocrisy. Who cares anyways. BTW I don't recall abusing her, but if hypocrisy is an abuse I stand by that.

That is one of the biggest myths/urban legends which has caught on. I had a detailed post and analysis on it, and the conclusion of it was that over the last 2 years before he became keeper, Dravid had an average of 40+ and a SR close to 75, and was easily among the top 3-4 batsmen in the team. There is no way his place as a batsman was under threat, neither were there any statements by anyone, nor articles in any respectable magazine to the effect that his place was under threat when he donned the keeping gloves.

Dravid is not there mentally... Mumbai: Thirty-one, nought, thirteen, nought – put together it is an unfamiliar string of numbers for Rahul Dravid. It is not as much the scores as his detached demeanour on the field that is disconcerting. Could it be attributed to a period of transition and its unsettling effect?

Former selector Kiran More is far from convinced. He says, "There maybe nothing wrong with his cricket but looking at Dravid it seems obvious that something is bothering him. I don’t know what is going through his mind at the moment. He is not there mentally." Ashok Malhotra feels that by taking up the role of a floater, Dravid is floating nowhere. "This somewhere in-between position could be tricky. Even though he failed at Vadodara, he should take guard at three," Malhotra remarks. "I wonder whether Dravid is regretting his decision to step down as captain. There may not be an immediate threat to his place in the one-day side but now it could be open to debate with talents like Rohit Sharma, S Badrinath and Manoj Tiwary waiting at the fringes." Although Dravid may want to wipe off the memories of the recent turn of events, they seem to have dredged up again. Kiran More nails home the point that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should have intervened when Dravid resigned as captain. "The BCCI should have addressed the matter. Why is it that Dravid never informed Dilip Vengsarkar of his decision to step down? It is understandable that Rahul chose to confide in the President (Sharad Pawar), but we must bear in mind that the chairman is integral to the skipper’s success. I find a strange disconnect here," he holds. Both agree that it would be a folly if the selectors sharpen the axe on Dravid after one bad series. In this regard More reminds that history has it that many Indian captains, irrespective of their form, had held on to their positions for seasons together. More comments, "I know Dravid closely and can vouch for what he feels for Indian cricket. It would be a monumental blunder to drop him. We turned to him when the chips were down and he has always responded manfully, whether it is batting anywhere from one to eight or keeping wickets." Malhotra, however, thinks that it may not be a bad idea to rest Dravid for the remaining games. He agrees, though, that India’s win in the Twenty20 Championship may now hurry the exits of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Dravid. He says, "It is time for us to decide whether we need three anchors in the side. If you ask me, it makes sense to include only one out of big three in Indian conditions and probably any two of them in Australia where our flat-track bullies come unstuck." http://www.cricketnext.com/news/dravid-is-not-there-mentally/27412-13.html
