i can understand if it is some one like pujara or dravid in reserve or in form gauti but here we are talking about cricketers ho have there own share of problems against moving ball .. did u see rahane bat against jogi today ? seriously these guys have future in team but that position is not opening and it will only harm them more then good.. example would be vvs laxman who flourished only in middle order and he wasm uch better against pace then rohit anyway..
actually Rahane is the leading run scorer in that match. Tells you a lot really.

wat have I done?? :omg: tbh, vijay was only a back up opener for much of his career, he is only a secondary option. the first time he got a full series is vs windies, where he pathetically failed. I never wanted to see him playing for india. I agree with GB and sabby, he deserves a shot after aus series. I also want Rahane in the team, but not as opener. Rohit can also be selected based on FC. If Vijay fails, then we can have them as openers, if we dont have any other option. I really hate rohit and an insane number of chances he got in odi, as if the mumbai lobby badly want him to succed. I want him to debut in tests, and his recent performance would secure him a place in odis. Dont worry, even if rohit debuts and fails in 2 or 3 series, he ll be selected still. ppl wont complain, regional bias may be. if vijay fails in a single series next yr, we might not see him again.

and which position is he batting in ? trust me opening the batting is totally different from even batting at number 3.. (dravid sued to say this ) he was saying mooli will do bangra against steyn today rahane did bhangra against jogi and like always threw away start:giggle:

why not open with ashwin and jadeja.? there is no rule against it but it is obviously not a good idea and any one who has eeen cricket knows this that cases like sehwag are exception rather than rule ..and even he never performed well on green tracks .
C'mon dude ! Sarcasm or not, a middle order opening isn't something new in cricket. That was my point.

umm he has come out in the second innings in the second over extremely early in the innings and faced the new ball in both cases. In both cases he saw off the new ball. He got out to a spinner today. What bhangra are you talking about? All i see is your on bhang. forget the ra. Considering he averages 60 in first class cricket. Clearly he knows how to cash in. and what was Mooli doing? scored 14 on a flat deck? Seems to me your arguing for the sake of arguing..

@slick. :whack: you r the one who massively derailed this thread. I hate when ppl want a cricketer to fail. they worked hard through out their life dedicating to the game and play for india. be it unadkat or vijay or project raina. we got to respect the fact that they have come so far.

Selectors should experiment against WI.as they r not a strong team in Indian condition
Dhawan has played 1 test, Vijay 16, Pujara 13 , Kohli 18, Jadeja 4, Bhuvi 4, Ashwin 16, Ojha 22 and Umesh 9 tests, thats a total of 103 tests between 9 players. You sure you want more experimentation?

whenevr this is done 2 things are common 1. your opener is out of form or injured 2. you have player like dravid do temporary job of opening now debutants who have no experience of opening at first class level. did not vvs say that opening hurt his chances and only when he got shot in middle order that he really flourished ? all this discussion is stupid..i asked you to give me name of one opener who is better than murali in india and you could not answer instead you are naming middle order batsmen who are fighting for other spot.. now obviously no one will say no..give it to raina nad he will say yes:winky: but we all know they will prefer middle order (even dravid did! ) .. you are assuming vijay will fail and assuming rohit and rahane will perform ..and then also assuming they will adjust to opening and over that..

but but he looked like a joker just like murali vijay.. isnt this the entire point of this discussion ? they do not care he scored runs they just care about him struggling while rahane has struggled against finn in odis .. rohit has struggled against sri lanka against parera but they are massively improved but guy who just tonked 2 massive tons in test match is not improved ? how do you justify selectng of rahane or rohit over him ?i dont like vijay but just cannot justify it so i am here trying to convey my point..

what looked like a joker? were you even watching the match? I did not see him struggling at all.

Did any of these apply to Sehwag when he went from middle order to an opener?
asked you to give me name of one opener who is better than murali in india
Seriously? You opine that he plays in SA with no valid reason apart from some runs in India and he FAILED in SA A tour.

lets compare rahane and vijay you all say he is bad against pace and swing ? probably he is 95 percent of batsmen we produced are only our legends like tendulkar, dravid and laxman were not .. but dont give me this crap that rahane is lot better cos he is not ..not only he has technical problems but also he is not mentally strong to score big runs when under pump .. they all have worked hard and they all deserve chance but vijay already got chance nad he performed against all odds he performed and own us series.. and i will not forget how good his defence was in all of those games jsut because he struggled while slogging in odis (rahane has been equally bad in odis ) rahane deserves chance too .most probably he will get another chance at number 6 (his rightful place right now ) but he has not even performed here and here we are tlaking baout replacing vijay with him for no damn reason.

He's a hack, plain and simple who isn't someone we should look forward to in the future. How much swing or pace has Vijay seen for you to compare him to those 2? Those guys have played in tougher conditions, atleast Rohit did.

yeah seriously..gve me one better opener right now in india who should replace him. and when sehwag came there was literally no opener and middle order was full so they took gamble with him.. situation was different there was no murali vijay scoring 300 + runs in an series blocking place or no dhawan smacking 180 odd on debut .. see the difference here we are talking about replacing in form batsmen.. while n sehwag's time he replaced some one i do not even remeber...enough said!

The point is he opened, doesn't matter what the reason was. He opened and he did well. Vijay will fail anyhow so we better have an opener in Rohit as Rahane is more suited at #5.

I think a more fitting reply is in MTC's new write up about our knowledge on bowlers and batsmen.

will fail....that is the problem ..you do not know this and i do not know this and he has every damn right to go out there and fight for himself after wonderful comeback // tell me now why do you feel he is hack ? he failed against new ball in south africa? well so did rohit sharma. he failed in odis ? so did rohit until now and rahane? are you talking about shots ? i am tlaking about actual performance here.. he is scores runs at home but is hack, rahane fails even at home and he is not hack ? please explain me the logic here.. are you tlaking about shots they play or how comfortable they looks ? every inning i have seen of rahane in last 2 years..not once has he looked fully confident and not edgy.. rohit scored like 4 ducks against sri lanka..how is he not considered hack ?.. this is just your personal bias speaking here and nothing more..

also please explain to me how the feck do you people know he will fail ?:wall: he was gonna fail in india too na ? proved every one of us wrong including me ...

Rohit will either succeed in tests or he ll be given repeated chances until he succeeds. If vijay fails in a single series from now, he will be dropped since they wanted Rohit to be a opener due to high competition for middle order.
