If you look at the total content consumption in this country, only 2% is consumed in English—if you take all English news, movies and drama channels that get beamed in this country. The remaining 98% is in local languages. That tells you about the opportunity we are missing. Bingo. My own grandparents have this issue. They understand and can speak hindi. But slowly. Sometimes the commentators in Hindi speak too fast for them and they dont understand the puns etc. Marathi commentary will do them good. Already they dont watch english news channels and stick to stuff like IBN lokmat. Just keep Bhogle away from the marathi team then it will be fine. We can have Dravid and Sanjay as anchors

Haven't seen the numbers on advertising revenues but go to any normal shop during a cricket match these days and the TV inside is running Hindi commentary. Have see this across number of smaller towns in the last 12 months

True my brother jokes aaj kapil paaji jada patiala peg dal ke baat kar raahien hain.What kapil dev is saying sometimes i wonder even if he himself understands the meaning.Gavaskar jokes around in hindi commentary like some nukadpaanwalla and shastri cannot speak hindi.Moron lal is good but his commentary sucks.They are taking the audience for granted people do not watch sports for comedy jokes.Cricket is serious passion for most even if they are in villages.

He is there to give his comments on the game and not give Hindi grammar lessons.Unlike in English in Hindi he can express his sentiments using correct vocabulary most of the time. I find him good if you don't so be it.
Sean Bradley Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Its not only Hindi, none of our commentators barring dravid & ganguly are of any standard's, Ravi Shashtri, i just cant understand why he screams every time hes near a microphone, looks unnatural and idiotic. I am forced to watch Hindi commentary just because shashtri commentates on the English one.

Naah. Actually Sidhu's shero shairi is quite popular. Some of the commies obviously are not natural Hindi speakers but guys like Wasim, Rameez, Sidhu, Uncle Lal, Ayaz Menon, Akash Chopra are all quite decent better than Vineet, Yashpal Sharma, Chetan Sharma and Vijay Dahiya on DD.

rageaddict Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Hindi Commentary is awesome but only on DD. We need proper Delhiwallas and Up wallas to create that magic in Hindi. But overall it has been a good initiative by STAR and hopefully they will turn to other regional languages viz Punjabi, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil, Bengali and break the monopoly of English/Hindi.

Phuddu is a Bh** ka l***. ch***ya number#1, but atleast is not boring listen to, coz he is so ridiculous. Dravid, a south Indian, is the best commentator in this match which says a lot about the quality of Hindi commentary. We need people of the likes of Kirti Azad, Manoj Prabhakar, Sehwag in the comm box to spice things up a bit.
