Trundler27 Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 The only oldie with a snowballs chance in hell to make the SA squad is Zak. I don't think Gambo or Viru are going to make it let alone a perennial Ranji champion like Jaffer or Amol Mazumdar. We are clearly the underdogs going to SA and so I strongly think that 1 proven player or experienced hand is not going to make any difference in a test match scenario. Let's stick to the youngsters and see what they are made of. Our old guard recently got pummelled 8-0 in away tests so I don't want them back hoping for a miracle turnaround.
G_B_ Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 i repeat again Vijay is 30 years old (or nearly) that is not a youngster. Not old but not young either. A youngster for me is somebody 27 and under.
vvvslaxman Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 i dont like his technique' date='i think he`ll fail..he doesn't look assured as an opener[/quote'] He is a sitting duck against full pitched deliveries outside the offstump. If there is a bit of movement he is clueless.
G_B_ Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Point is Mukund should have been persisted with. If he fails then fair enough axe him. He got i think 3 chances in England when barring dravid the entire team failed with the bat and he was axed. Vijay has got enough chances. A huge % of them at home. This is exactly what i mean by Indian not giving people a fair run. We wasted Badri by plugging in Yuvi and Raina two people who had pathetic ranji averages. Now we are wasting Mukund by giving Vijay way too many chances.
vvvslaxman Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 There are some guys who may not go on to have a great career. But if they deserve a run they need it. After chennai test debacle his scores have been 167, 153, 26, 57, 11, 26. So there is no real reason to drop other than "gut feeling" . Some guys suffered because of this. Sadagoppan Ramesh last 4 innings scores 47, 31, 46, 55. Well not great.. But not poor enough to be dropped forever as well. Vijay deserves a chance to fail before we move on to other options. We have plenty of them.
putrevus Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 It seems like Rahane is not at all interested in opening, he is still batting in middle order for mumbai. So If Vijay does not work out who is going to open???
