A bad lapse of judgment, an awful misreading of the situation, have led to an unfortunate incident that rails against all we believe in and fight for. I have already unconditionally apologised for my misconduct to the concerned journalist, but I feel impelled to atone further." He added, "I feel atonement cannot be just words. I must do the penance that lacerates me. I am therefore offering to recuse myself from the editorship of Tehelka, and from the Tehelka office, for the next six months." Forwarding Mr Tejpal's mail to Tehelka's employees this evening, Ms Chaudhury wrote: "There has been an untoward incident, and though he has extended an unconditional apology to the colleague involved, Tarun will be recusing himself as the editor of Tehelka for the next six months." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Crookbond Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 For 6 months?!!! I haven't seen a bigger chewtiyapanti than this. Here are words from the victim's e-mail saikatd: *Disturbing that #Tehelka has taken a position not to inquire. Victim was sexually assaulted twice, asked for an inquiry. saikatd: ".. #Tehelka constitute an anti sexual harassment cell as per the Vishakha guidelines immediately, to investigate this matter.": Victim saikatd: "..extremely painful for me to write this email to you .. sexually assaulted me at Think on two occasions last week.": #Tehelka Victim saikatd: "...process the fact that ...who molested me...was my father's ex colleague and friend's dad, and someone I had so deeply respected" Victim
ravishingravi Posted November 20, 2013 Author Posted November 20, 2013 They are tearing him apart on twitter.
seedhi Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 For 6 months?!!! I haven't seen a bigger chewtiyapanti than this. Here are words from the victim's e-mailA 6 month VACATION not jail-time !! For molesting a girl ! It seems that the girl ended up in a hospital and this criminal takes a 6 month long vacation as atonement ?!!
Crookbond Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 A 6 month VACATION not jail-time !! For molesting a girl ! It seems that the girl ended up in a hospital and this criminal takes a 6 month long vacation as atonement ?!! It happened twice mind you. saikatd: "Both times, I returned to my room in a completely distraught condition, trembling and crying." #Tehelka Victim saikatd: " As of Saturday evening, he sent me text messages insinuating that I misconstrued "a drunken banter". That is not what happened." Victim saikatd: "Banter does not involve forcing yourself on someone, trying to disrobe them, and penetrate them with your fingers..." Victim saikatd: "As you read through details...I hope you will also understand how traumatic & terrifying it has been for me to report this to you" Victim It's now pretty clear what happened!
seedhi Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 It happened twice mind you. It's now pretty clear what happened!As per the laws passed earlier this year his alleged conduct clearly constitutes attempt to rape. He should be in jail by now along with anyone who tried to hush it up.
FischerTal Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 OT: Tarun Tejpal steps down as Tehelka editor after alleged sexual misco Commence victim blaming/shaming in 3,2,1.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Raghav_12 Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Why the hell this is being treated as some internal matter of Tehelka? He should have been arrested by now. Allegations are serious enough.
Sachin=GOD Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 I'm quite sure there'll be legal proceedings soon...
Raghav_12 Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 I'm quite sure there'll be legal proceedings soon... criminal proceedings is the right word..
seedhi Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Some part of the assault has been caught on CCTV. That is enough for the police to act.
bulbul Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Tejpal has in his letter said that he had apologised unconditionally to the journalist concerned. “I squarely take the blame for this. A bad lapse of judgment, an awful misreading of the situation have led to an unfortunate incident that rails against all we believe in and fight for," Tejpal said. Only if it was done by some one else , comments should ahve been totally different.
bulbul Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Shoma Chaudhury has issued a statement in this regard saying, "There was an incident which has been dealt with internally. An unconditional apology was extended by Tarun. The journalist concerned was satisfied with the action taken. Tarun voluntarily recusing himself as editor is in keeping with the standards we have espoused as an institution and want to live by." . another gem.....
Sachin=GOD Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Only if it was done by some one else ' date=' comments should ahve been totally different.[/quote'] internal enquiry and apology letter :WTF: does he/his organization even realize that what he has actually done???
FischerTal Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Shoma chaudhary, wasnt this the same lady last year that came to NYC with Dutt memsaab to lecture on the feminist movement in India and what problems Indian women face with regards to gender issues. Now, she is the same lady who is saying an apology justifies sexual assault. the hypocrisy is unbearable.... i feel sad for Indian victims of gender violence. even the so-called torchbearers of gender equality are ultimate chewtiyas, who will do anything to save the back of one of their own, even if that means somebody stays mentally scarred for the rest of their life. Jai Hind :isalute:
diga Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Only if it was done by some one else ' date=' comments should ahve been totally different.[/quote'] left & liberal ... kuch bhi chalta hai Only when you are right of centre, do all questions of morality come in
Crookbond Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 internal enquiry and apology letter :WTF: does he/his organization even realize that what he has actually done??? It is mandatory by law to have an independent sexual harassment enquiry. Jai Hind :isalute: Last year? A few days back she remarked that the CBI director should lose his job over the rape remark. Amazing that she finds a 6-month suspension OK for "disrobe & finger penetration".
Sachin=GOD Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 It is mandatory by law to have an independent sexual harassment enquiry. someone should tell that to Tehelka's management.
seedhi Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 It is mandatory by law to have an independent sexual harassment enquiry.In this case there was physical violence (caught on tape) and the actions constitute attempt to rape - this requires immediate police action as per IPC. The sexual harassment inquiry guidelines are meant for (relatively less serious) things like staring, passing lewd comments etc. For physical violence and attempt to rape (penetration etc) criminal action is required.
