Cricket is not the most popular sport in England. Nobody cares about any thing other than the Ashes. So this bloke could not cop up with expectations of few people for one series a year :hehe: What would these poms do if they are burdened by the pressure and expectations of Indian cricketers. Yeah, Trott chickened out just like Trescothick chickened out and never played an international match again. You have no idea how hard it is to publicly admit that you have a mental illness. Agreed. I know how bad it feels to have a stress related illness. I experienced it last year in my 2nd year of College. I just hope he recovers. This isn't anything to make fun about.

Exactly. It's like saying Sachin pretended to have tennis elbow or Yuvi just lied about having cancer to avoid playing a few matches or explaining away bad form. Mental illnesses are just as bad , or even worse than having a physical ailment. It Trott wanted to skip the series, he could have just as well asked the team management to drop him. But admitting that he faced a stress related illness clouds his entire career.

Those who are from cold countries, cold places are told have depression more for instance, guys in Masschusettes is more likely to have depression than someone in california. Not sure how much the studies are true.

This I don't understand. He was alright in first test.After first test he picked up stress illness. I am glad these guys were not Tendulkars. They would have had stress illness at 18 or 20. Not making fun of stress related illness. I understand fully what it iis.

Trecothick stress had nothing to connect to. It was just home sickness. This one you can connect something to.

Obviously it comes to a point where it becomes hard to continue the tour. The intense media criticism could also be trigger factors. I mean would you say that Gayle chickened out the Indian tour? No, because he faced a physical injury. Trott's case is not at all different.

Hope Trott recovers well, but is it stress due to lack of performance with him. The term stress is very broad and too many things come under it. Trescothik's issue of being away from home is very common and also understandable.

Purely cricketing. Guy gets taken for a ride by every England and Australian press. Then it comes to this. Not difficult to connect dots. May not be true. But timing is weird. I am pretty sure he was part of their elaborate preparation for the Ashes. He could have known earlier. Unless some other team mates of his come out and say "yes he was having this before the first test" It will be open to interpretation.

I don't see any reason why Trott has to lie especially while doing something as difficult in admitting that you are suffering from a mental illness.

This incident just re-inforces the greatness of Sachin as a cricketer... to have faced 1 billion times more stress than trott and to have not only continued but excelled to end up an ATG.... now that is something ridiculous. Living in the west makes me realize how tough our societies back home really are.... If 95% of the westerners live in those conditions, they would all have stress related conditions. But the honest reality is that it does take guts to admit mental illness as it is very much taboo even today... So all the best to Trott in his recovery efforts.

In hindsight my reaction was wrong. Trott is suffering from mental issue and is not nice. He clearly is not happy and suffering bad stress. Does take courage to go public that suffering from mental illnes and have to quit. The stigma attached that is massive, no one would want to go public on that. Better to average 10 then go public with a mental problem and have to quit and go home. Has all my genuine sympathies and wish him well.

I hope he doesn't suffer the same fate as Trescothick. Trott has been a consistent, great player for England over the past 4 years. Hope to see him in the India-England series next year.
