Gooch, Richardson, lamb.

Richardson was an enterprising cricketer. Gooch a solid cricketer. Bit of an eyesore. Lamb mix of aggression and caution.

Richardson not in the same class as Gooch, Lamb , once after his initial success when his short comings were highlighted his career went down hill super fast, Gooch a very dour, Atherton like test bat who did not give away his wicket and also played well against spinners and in Asia, Lamb a good player , especially when team needed him and against faster bowlers.

Gooch most of the time succumbed to Malcom marshall. Sort of a bunny

lamb was a very good odi bat but not that good in tests,he is the 3rd choice gooch and richie were equally good and had their shortcomings as well but richie never faced his own bowling line up,both had good test careers

Gooch lbw Alderman (indeed, lbw Alderman) was a common dismissal during the 1989 Ashes. :winky: Round about that time, someone clearly disgruntled with Margaret Thatcher's government had written "THATCHER OUT" on a wall. Some wag then added, either alongside or underneath it, "lbw Alderman". All that said, Gooch was a very fine batsman, and would probably have him ahead of Richie Rich. Lamb was definitely a better ODI batsman than test. If anything, if tests is the criteria, you're probably better off comparing Goochy and Richie Rich with another South African-turned Englishman (who did have a degree of success against Australia in tests), Robin Smith.
