i do not know how people on icf rate technique for me its ability to stay balanced and deal with wing and not just having high elbow and straight bat technique also includes covering for swing and playing at last moment while rohit commits to playing the ball way to early! just cannot wait to see how pujara plays here cos he is onl guy in this team who does not commits to shot and can defend at very last moment:winky:

If you try to cover the swing, you will get the edge sooner or later. Best thing is how you can leave the ball in such conditions. You do not need to play at everything. Those were leg breaks at 140K.

Ponting was big front footer so he was on the front foot most of the times.Rohit is diff style he does not commit early and plays late .Frankly anybody would have struggled and rohit did pretty well to leave most balls and had to play some peaches which beat him.

Everyone has a different game. You may look clueless from outside, but batsman know what he is doing. He was playing original line of the ball and not for swing that may look poor but that wont get him out as he will miss them and if he had followed the swing too much, he would have edged. Every batsman is different, some have big front foot movement, some not. VVS was never really famous for his front foot stride, same way Dravid used to take big strides, but it never assured Dravid much success in SA. So, it is all up to individual what suits him the best. Amla never has big stride forward and only plays from the crease as the commentators showed from his striking point but he is still successful and again that kind of bowling from Steyn anyone will struggle.

Yes he struggled to touch few but his aim was to leave as much as possible.U cannot commit to front foot when playing guys like steyn as they can bounce you and rohits role is to see off new ball. When he gets in he will get his front foot across and play beautiful covers drives but against new ball its risky.

You need big strides when you want to play at those. If you do not want then you dont need big stride, you can leave them and just play for incoming and original line covering off stump. Ball will swing away and miss the edge without getting you out. It may look poor but it wont take your wicket like yesterday.
