rkt.india Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 For Durban - SA will go with 4 pacers. McLaren to replace Morkel and one more pacer (who will that be - if they want one more - does Parnell have a chance?) - they know thats their best attack - all pacers with Duminy as spinner. They have Merchant De Lange, Kyle Abbot, Hardus Viljoen, Beuran Hendricks, Rory. Parnell wont play, Hendricks is a better left arm option and should make his debut sooner than later though I am tempted to play Viljoen, a like for like replacement, tall genuine quick pacer.
Muloghonto Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 why not abbott ? he destroyed australia....
Old guy Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 why not abbott ? he destroyed australia.... I think it was not Australia:cantstop:
rkt.india Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 why not abbott ? he destroyed australia.... Not Australia but Pakistan in his debut test.
rkt.india Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 De Lange is currently has a stomach strain. So he wont be there. Kyle Abbot, Hardus Viljoen, Rory, Maclaren and Hendricks, two of them will play in Durbon. Chriss Morris also has outside chances as he can bat too.
Number Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 De Lange is currently has a stomach strain. So he wont be there. Kyle Abbot' date=' Hardus Viljoen, Rory, Maclaren and Hendricks, two of them will play in Durbon.[/quote'] Morkel won't play now 95% chance in Durban, I am glad about it. For some reason in South Africa Morkel has been bigger threat for us than Steyn. Bounce troubles Indian batsmen more. Kyle Abbot has done well in tests but he would be much easier than Morkel. A bit worried about McLaren though, he was very good in ODIs.
rkt.india Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Craig Alexander is another bowler waiting in the wings, can bowl 140 plus.

Both of them are not extremely quick.
Zanjeer Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 They should play 5 fast bowlers. Spin isn't gonna trouble Indian batsmen.

Another threat imo would be Dale Steyn coming back totally fired up after this debacle for him.
rkt.india Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 They should play 5 fast bowlers. Spin isn't gonna trouble Indian batsmen. Spin is not going to trouble even Saffers on these pitches. Ashwin is more playing for his batting prospects than bowling here. If his batting was not good, we might have played 4 pacers here.
rkt.india Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Agree but do you think his batting will be important factor in tests? Another threat imo would be Dale Steyn coming back totally fired up after this debacle for him. Certainly. He is not a bad bowler to replace Tahir's crap. He can bat and bowl as good as most fast bowlers. Steyn was all fired up in this test too and Durbon might not give as much pace and bounce as this pitch has provided. That pitch is not the same pitch as it used to be when in 1996, India bowled out of 66 and 100.

If his batting was not good' date=' we might have played 4 pacers here.[/quote'] I don't agree that ashwin is in the team because he is a decent batsman. Even if there was no ashwin or jaddu , dhoni would have played mishra. Dhoni has this mindset that saffies struggle against spin. Whatever matches we have played against them, dhoni always relies on spin rather than pace.
Muloghonto Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 days of the four prong or the five pronged fast bowling units are over. A spinner is a must, if not for anything, to simply keep pace with the over rate. If the Saffers go with 4 pacers + Kallis, expect Duminy to bowl a lot. If ashwin doesnt pick up any wickets this test, expect him to be replaced by another spinner. But no side in the world today will go with 4 pacers unless they are 99% SURE they will get the opposition for under 250 both innings for the over rate to not matter.Or else, it simply wont work.
