vvvslaxman Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Case can be made for backing Sreeshanth' date='RP and Zaheer(2nd run) who won matches in return[/quote'] Sree also won tow tests for dhoni. Attributing all losses to captain and attributing all wins to players is nothing but one eyed observation. Using your logic Rohit should have been permanently discarded as hack after SL series. But for dhoni nobody would have backed that hack. Atleast that is what all fans felt. When bhajji was backed it was rhiti sports. Everyone cried for ashwin. When Ashwin is backed it is csk. When jaddu is backed it will be rhiti sports, n csk. Dhoni is bad as captain. Fans are far worse.
Old guy Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 no way..i think other captains will make same mistakes its just matter of selection here otherwise the way he captained he outclassed smith and we will miss him when he is no longer there.. you can already see improvement that oldies are gone..captain cant really do much tbh in tests the class of team matters more

SA lost one bowler smith was looking clueless. India already started match with one bowler less. Same way Steve Waugh during 2004/05 series after losing McGrath he was clueless against India. In the ashes once McGrath left injured oz lost both tests. This was when they were invincible. Quality is more important.
Ghost Buster Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 No one is available for captaincy beside Dhoni. If we want a new captain, then we should bring back one of the non-performing seniors we kicked out. Why cant kohli? We cant know about a player how good he will be under captaincy until he is given the job. Has far as kohli is concerned he has got all attributes to lead us in tests and if he succeeds then we dont have to look for a captain for atleast another 7 or 8yrs.
CG Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 :cantstop: Clearly The saying you are as good as u last match hold true.I mean people just have to watch tapes of eng tour, aus tour even recent sa odi series was example of dhonis insane captaincy. The sa commentators in recent odi series could not stop laughing with kohli and raina bowling at 10 overs mark.

Has far as kohli is concerned he has got all attributes to lead us in tests and if he succeeds then we dont have to look for a captain for atleast another 7 or 8yrs. He is not ready and mature enough. Plus he hasn't fully matured in tests yet, only 70%. Not until at least another 2-3 years. It will ruin him, if he's given full-time captaincy in tests.

I6MTW Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 was dhoni mature when he got captaincy. He was 27 when he got captaincy.
CG Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 He was 27 when he got captaincy. Virat kohli is 25 and played international cricket for many years now and is established player with previous captaincy experience in u 19 world cup.

Even picking Tahir at the Wanderes knowing it won't help spinners. Dhoni is good when spinners are in business. We have moved away from the 0-8 series. We even whitewashed OZ 4-0. How long we are going to cling onto it. Tendulkar captaincy is the worst i have seen from an Indian. Dhoni looks bad because he alternates between peaks and vallies. Nothing in between like gangu..
I6MTW Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Virat kohli is 25 and played international cricket for many years now and is established player with previous captaincy experience in u 19 world cup. One could say that and bring valid arguments as to why Kohli should be captain now. But, unlike Kohli, Dhoni played test cricket for almost 4 years before gaining captaincy. Kohli has only played for 2 years, much less number of tests than Dhoni was.

Quality is more important. one correction it was ponting during 2005 but problem is we are not comparing him with waugh he might be better but we dont have one and kohli makes similar selection mistakes by supporting vinay and unadkat :cantstop: also give him time with new team i am already seeing huge difference also the way he managed team after two horror odis and allowed team to not panic and make such a good comeback is impressive and this is where calmness of dhoni comes in like i said we will miss these things when he is gone..i have rarely heard of any fight in team even with so many hot headed guys..he manages this team beautifully no matter how you see it.
CG Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Fight in the team? Good luck with that Dhoni paraded the whole team to show he and sehwag were friends in england. There is a simple rule dhoni follows -my way or the highway.Gambhir, dhoni, sehwag relation is well known.
saneindian Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 I don't know who was responsible. All I know is under Dhoni not even a single talented bowler's career has taken off. There were quite a few who were doing very well around the time his captaincy started, there were some who were started well under him, but at the end they are finished in some time. Not entirely his fault but when there are so many of these, can't we question his captaincy specially when we all see how he is handing his fast bowlers now ? Lets list names and then discuss them one by one. Which are the bowlers which started under Dhoni but are finished now? Again lrets list names

vvvslaxman Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Guys like Dravid lost their ODI places after Dhoni took over. He didn't mince words when he said about slowness on the field. He was particular about getting in youngsters than sticking with old guns. Atleast on the batting front he is largely responsible for infusing youth discarding the olds. On the bowling front Umesh is the only guy who might felt hard done. He backed Bhuvaneswar at that time who is also another youngster. If at all Umesh had come in that would have been at the expense of Shami not Bhuvanes. We might have lost Shami then. As long as he backs youngsters consistently just be happy with him instead of trying to nit picking. Don't forget iNdia is still in transition state. Look at the players Australia used right after their greats were gone. So many crap players. on the batting front. When you lose players who had played for more than 15 years, 20 years it is hard to replace them overnight.
Raghav_12 Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Yes. If have achieved something until that time and your team is ready for transition he would have survived. Just imagine the amount of losses Australia after their greats retired. Look t the amount of losses West Indies is suffering still after mid 90s. Their transition is eternal. Nothing was as bad as 0-8.
vvvslaxman Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Nothing was as bad as 0-8. Australia lost 7 out of 9 tests this year before this series. Isn't that bad? Problem is even though Dhoni deserved to go.. at that point there was not much of alternative as seniors were dropping like flies. Either they were too ripe or too young.

When Australia lost 7 out of 9, did CA sack Clarke? No they persisted with him. Same way BCCI persisted with Dhoni, after 0-8.
Number Posted December 24, 2013 Author Posted December 24, 2013 Lets list names and then discuss them one by one. Which are the bowlers which started under Dhoni but are finished now? Again lrets list names RP, Sreesanth, Ishant, Munaf, Irfan Pathan (Perth test motm), Zaheer, Mishra. Out of all these Ishant is just being dragged, only Zaheer fulfilled his promise. PK started around that time well, Finished now. Under Dhoni rubbish bowlers like VK got tons of chances. Umesh has joined the list already. Not gonna play many ODIs as he is poor in that format. Tests he is not gonna play any match in India, outside India just one or two games here and there.
