Not that they will support Advani either. Here is the thing, Advani lost the last elections. badly. Now just like any organisation, here the goal is to win elections. They thought Advani can do the job. He couldn't. You go for the next prospect. Maybe he excites the cadres. But cadres don't win the election. People of India do. Unless you are saying majority of Hindu community is also hardcore right wing if they vote for him, in which case choice of Narendra Modi is all but justified. Where is the question of right or left wing here ? If he fails this election, then he too I'll be crucified as it should. I see no reason to pick a candidates who will please appeasement junta but ultimately fail in elections and not bring about any change.

Whether Modi is hardcore or not, if he manages to get more seats for BJP than Advani, then he'll prove that Advani was not that popular a leader among the masses. Public will decide whether Modi becomes PM or not...

Having the benefit of hindsight we can say that since AtalJi retired just 1-2 years after the 2004 elections, LK Advani would certainly have been the PM but at the time of the 2004 elections LK Advani was neither the PM nor the PM candidate and not many people voted for/against BJP because of him.
