Not saying Rahane or Pujara cannot be successful ODI batsmen. Am talking about the fickle nature of the fans who will waste no time in dubbing them as failure if they don't do well in a couple of matches
They il be same regardless the performance just look at fans who were against Kohli after failure against West Indies at home..it's not like what we fans say matter anyway.. All I know is yuvraj and Raina have been crap against bounce specially in Australia and rahane and others have much much better chance of succeeding ...fans want 30 ball 50 of Raina forgetting that guy cannot make 2 runs against Johnson ...I am willing to accept little slower batsman who will at least score in Australia and who knows they might surprise us..rahane has done well in ipl :giggle:

that is because they were unproven commodity overseas before. Now they have shown that they can handle the pace and bounce and I doubt now anyone will have any problem in giving them a longer rope than the likes of Raina and Yuvraj who have mostly struggled against pace and bounce and cannot bat in top 4. Top 4 should have proper batsmen and not just sloggers overseas.
Different formats. And lol at calling Yuvraj a slogger

Technique is same for all formats. Especially in places like Aus, you will have play very much like you will play in tests. WRT to Yuvraj, this is what he is now. He never had a great technique.

I want Gambhir to fix his technique before the WC. I just feel he would be a good addition to the WC side 'if' Dhawan fails to sustain this glory run of his. Otherwise I would have Dhawan-Pujara opening with Rohit down the order at 4, Dhoni at 5 and a decent finisher or a good slogger down at 6. A more sensible Yusuf Pathan may be. I haven't seen a lot of Jadhav in List A or IPL. I wouldn't mind if Gambhir doesn't make it to the XI if Dhawan is in good touch before the WC. Pujara-Dhawan will be a very handy opening pair. May be Chand could make his way to the side. Has done well in Aus during the U19.
True that Unmkut has better List A record than FC, but is he in good enough form? Has he played any 'A' tours? Would have loved to see Baba somewhere in the team, esp since he is a very handy List A bowler as well. But, there are far too many batsmen around.

Thats where the test for Pujara and Rahane as a middle order bat in ODIs will be. Also 6 months back the same Rahane could not handle the short pitch bowling, could not play fast bowling. Ideally wouldn't you wait a little longer before hailing him as the ideal number 4 in ODIs for us?

Rahane failed in one series before that he pulled and hooked short ball fairly well even in his debut series..it was case of him being under cooked cos of being on bench for too long but this time he played ranji on tough tracks and before that a tour so he was much more in form Now he will be regular guy in team and I am sure we will see best of him cos even in South Africa he did not show his full potential ..

For ODI's Dhoni is gun player' date=' irrespective of the country or pitches you play on.[/quote'] +1. Dhobi's ODI avg in Australia is 61.66, well above his career avg. The man is an ODI god, and hopefully even Dhobi-haters recognize that. He's also a good captain in this format. In Tests, he's not a good captain and he's quite poor as a batsman outside Asia.

But WC is a long way to go from here. Hopefully our team is well set before the WC. Its important Dhoni bats at 5 if Raina is in the XI. Need someone rock solid at the top 4, and Pujara it should be. Rahane can at times be a tad slow unlike Pujara who paces his innings according to the conditions.

Rah and and pujara are both similar tbh but I feel rahane can hit six more easily than pujara which might come in handy ...pujara should bat at top maybe as back up opener :--D

Rahane has been more comfortable in T20s and Tests. Hasn't looked that settled in ODIs and pressure gets to him big time. Imagine him opening in the WC and 2 wickets falling early in the innings. That guy will start performing homas on the pitch. These smileys should be dedicated to Rahane - :nervous: :afraid: :om: Would make a good #4 but no matter how bad Rohit plays, tailunt is glued in the team.

Pujara is quite similar to Amla. Play him at the top of the order and give him time, and he can avg quite high. But since Rohit-Dhawan has been OK so far, best option is to play him at 4.

Raina and Yuvraj are equally inept against quality short bowling, which brings other factors into play like age, fielding, contribution in other aspects. Raina the bowler and fielder is better. Moreover I hope they use Raina at 6, that is the best place for him. He can't build an innings, don't make him do something he can't.
Ideally I won't chose either but if I had to it would be Yuvraj.hes slightly better against bouncers than Raina.atleast its not mental issue where he jumps before ball is released. Also hes got a great record in almost all ICC tourneys.his fielding has been okay since his comeback.

Yuvi's fielding has actually become worse since his comeback.

Pujara should open if these two fail before the WC but come to think of it, I'm judging the top 4 based on the recent home series, my bad. Pujara won't be a bad deal at 4. Handy there if we lose 2 quick wickets.

Go pehle ki bat hai when he played without match practice and talent sharma at his back to take place after one failure Now he has performed against the best he will be different player :winky:

Woh toh hai but I don't like the idea of Rahane at 4. Rayudu could be better there.

Rayadu will be better at 5 4 is high enough for rahane ...would love to have another player like Kohli tbh but that is rare so now we have to decide between sluggers who do well at home but won't score in Australia like Raina or players like rah and who won't give u 400 score but don't we have dhoni and some other finisher for that role ? On top dhawan ,rohit and Kohli can all hit anyway..
