If BCCI makes a First Class (4 day) and a one day competition on the lines of IPL, Do you think it'll succeed. 4 overseas players in the lineup
No. IPL's success hinges on the short duration of the matches. Even ODI will have much less success. First class IPL will fail big tme.

IPL could get really boring at times. The trolling on ICF makes it even more fun.
Specially when the Master Race bites the dust. :hehe: Otherwise, who cares? :dontknow:

I think if the IPL is indeed spread over 2 months, they will play it at the weekends. So it wont get that boring. However you have to keep in mind that June-July-Aug are the main rainy months of India. So any expansion of the IPL will have to be probably towards March

Feb March April May 4 months which means 16 weekends of IPL . If IPL continues with the 8 teams then 14 weekends to play the league format and 2 weeks for Semi and Final.Dont think it wiil be that hard to work out a schedule

hmm i guess you have not factored in that exams happen in April in most places. Kids are not going to tune in during that time ie Feb onwards probably. Not saying what your proposal wont work. But there might be a big dip early on. I guess they can have, one game in Friday evening. One on Saturday morning and one on Sat evening with Sunday morning having the last. But if we are going to go down the route of an IPL for 4 months then IMO we need to have more than 8 teams. Would like a team for Maha, Guj, UP, Bihar MP and North East. Which means that we need to have in total of say 7 games, say 2 friday 3 sat and 2 sunday. Or we have what they have with the EPL. Simultaneous games.

Can anyone help me understand how they exactly came up with the revenue sharing model? How did they fix the percentages for each board? I don't think Indian companies sponsoring ICC events can directly be considered as contributions from the BCCI. SO what's the basis?

Consider that the Indian cricket team is the "product" of BCCI. ICC sells TV rights to ICC tournaments to TV channels who inturn sell subscription and advertising spots to companies who wish to advertise their product. ICC sold TV rights last time for something like 1.5 billion $ to star espn. In India, espn star broadcasts the games while it sells the rights to other channels like sky in UK where it doesn't broadcast star. In India, millions watch the Indian cricket team playing which means that star is able to sell ad spots for very large amounts of money and hence earns a lot of money. So yes, it the Indian team that is being used to earn a lot of money by ICC,by star and whoever advertises in these spots. The same goes for ICC sponsors who hope to advertise their product to Indians (as is evident that almost all the sponsors of ICC are from Indian companies or global company's Indian branch. I keep saying this over and over. Supply and demand. Since Indian team is the most in demand, it earns the most(by fetching the most ad spot prices). It is also very evident when India tours a country. For example, when India plays say SA, the total revenue is around 50 million $(Most of it is from selling TV rights to Indian TV channels) while Pak tours SA, the revenue is probably around 3-5 million $. Coming back to the ICC money, Since i dont have the money, i am just going to use arbitrary numbers. Lets say Now that star-espn makes 2.5 billion $ from the tv rights from all over the world. But its makes 2 billion $ in India while making 400 million in England and Australia and 100 million $ from the rest. Ofcourse this is not fool proof since a lot of indians watch other teams but it is safe to say that Indians spending money to watch Indian cricket from outside India far outweighs Indians spending money to watch other teams inside India. Speaking in terms of arbitrary numbers,if India did not exist at all, ICC would have sold the TV rights for way less, say around 300 million $ instead of 1.5 billion $ and probably earn around 30% of what it does from sponsors.

Isn't it a shame that Pakistan with 200 Million Population -- cannot ride this? They are not even self-sufficient. Goes on to show how some narrow minded/flawed thinking of the think-tanks (read ISI in Pakistan's case) can literally go on to destroy a nation in more than one ways. They do not have companies that can step forward to grab the sponsorship spots If only they ditched their "Anti-India/Supporting Radical" policies and got their country in order, they could be a good viable option for ICC to get money from. Heck they could be doing a lot good in many other things. Anyways, why am I dreaming? There is a good chance of sun rising in Hawaii before Pakistan changes.

Its not just Pakistan. Even south africa should be self sufficient. Ie not reliant on any income from the ICC or even india touring. I was reading how a shortened India tour would lead to a $20 million loss which was going hurt CSA badly and i am thinking to myself wtf seriously, your not a poor nation. The big issue in places like SA and NZ is that the governing bodies have not done enough to spread the sport for years and years. I asked Ian O brien who is a big mouth on twitter about this and he just kept mum on the issue. If India supposed to keep the likes of NZ and SA afloat for the next 100 years? Why is it that rugby union in these countries is very resilient from an economic POV yet cricket is heavily dependent on hand outs? Say what you may about England but Giles Clarke has worked tirelessly to ensure that cricket in the UK is now a better paying sport than rugby union. A county cricketer earns more than his domestic counterpart in rugby union and has a longer career due to the lack of injuries. Most kids than ever are looking to cricket (second only to football). You have to respect that. In Australia cricket was recently voted the number 1 sport. Yes Australia has other sports but Cricket Australia have worked hard to ensure that cricket stays at the top. The big bash league ensures they have viable financial streams.

Pakistan isn't reliant on Indian income .. how many times have India toured us in the past few decades ? Re ICC Income: We deserve our cut ... Pakistan team draws viewers .. we are entertaining in one way or another :giggle: and we have star players the world loves to watch.

Exactly YOUR cut. Not the 114 Million Dollars that was doled out to you in Charity over the last 7 years. Because England at 2nd Position contributes 5% to ICC, and if Aus is around 3% -- that leaves how much -- 2% between Pak, NZ, SLC, WI and CSA. I wouldn't be surprised if PAK, NZ, SLC and WI contribute 0%. Realistically, the values of Pakistan cannot be more than 20 - 25 $USD over the last 7 years and this is just for participation in WCs and ICC Tournaments. Same goes with WI, SLC and NZ. But the point is -- that is a shame -- at least other countries can complain of Population which is not interested in cricket, but Pakistan cannot complain of the same.

From Cricinfo, "The broadcasting deal is one of the major sources of income for the PCB. The previous TV deal, worth approximately USD 140 million suffered a hefty loss of USD 80 million following the cancelation of two bilateral series against India. While the PCB refused to reveal the value of the short-term deals, ESPNcricinfo understands the value of two series would negatively affect the long-term deal next year." So thats 60 million $ without India for 5 years. So 12 million a year from its TV rights and 8 million from ICC. Thats 40% of its TV rights income from ICC tournaments. Meanwhile ECB's is less than 10% and BCCI's is less than 5%. If people are not watching Pakistan play bilateral series, the numbers are not going to be much higher in ICC matches. So no, you dont deserve an equal amount as ECB or BCCI.

Like it or not, you have to give it to Srini for his single minded focus on achieving a complete control over things. Man goes behind such targets with a passion and achieves that without budging. Media, ex players , netas all pitched against him yet nothing unnerves him. For the larger benefit of the game though, hope someone dethrones him soon.

Don't give any money to Pakistan which they don't deserve. We can offer money to Pakistani cricketers and create an alternate 11 and play with them and we can bring PCB on its knees. No big deal. ✊

Same thing can be done with Sri Lanka, west Indies, new Zealand, and Bangladesh. Offer money to their players and play with them. This will bring their cricket boards on their knees. Money talks. Oh, yeah.

my money is on pcb. if bcci bribes them and they will be the last vote bcci is looking for. As a brown man, i for one can for see the future ... someone's bout to get hurt real bad.
