The ratio of above average bowlers amongst those tried is very bad.Great pace bowler is probably a dream for us' date=' isn't it. So that makes me cautious about being very hopeful about our pace bowlers. With batsmen i am usually more optimistic.[/quote'] No fast bowler becomes great from day one for from first few matches. Steyn was dropped after his debut for 2 years. Mcgrath had an ordinary first few test matches but their system helps them improve. We need that support system for our pacers too. Once they get a bit of success, we play them every match possible and fatigues them out till they lose intensity and motivation. Same thing happening with Shami who has played 6 ODIs against Aus, 3 against WI, 3 against SA, 5 against NZ, 2 tests against SA, 2 tests against WI since October. Isn't it far too much for a young pacer, he has not gotten any breathing space to introspect on his bowling. Same happened with BK and he only got rest because he bowled poorly at Wanderers.

I haven't see any great Indian fast bowler in last two decades.Isn't that enough time to develop even one great fast bowler.

The whole Indian cricket system is grossly flawed as far as developing good fast bowlers is concerned. Indian players , past and present, don't seem to have a clear idea as to what is required to develop and preserve a good pacer. Nobody has any idea about How to bowl well and take wickets . So many things have been done wrongly throughout out cricket history as far as bowling is concerned. It includes talent search, initial coaching, how to bowl well, motivating bowlers and developing them, bowling strategies to take wickets, field placements, managing and maintaining pacers etc. etc. All these things won't change in a hurry.

Have to agree, look at the Dhoni never had a 145 bowler so has no idea how to use him.

Doesn't that mean there is some problem in the system?
Offcourse there is a major problem if we cannot produce one great fast bowler in 2 decades. Especially, given we have so many young cricketers starting to take pace bowling as early as 6 years in club cricket. I find it tough to believe that all million cricketers who took to pace bowling are all useless. At least one great pace bowler should have been seen at international level. The problems, imo, is biased selections from as early levels as Under 14 teams, wickets unsuitable for pace bowling, conditions unsuitable for pace bowling, proper infrastructure and system to identify, promote and develop the pace bowlers right through their teen age or at grassroot levels.

or lack stamina and physical fitness.
Disagree with that.Over the years we have heard Pakistan bowlers are strong, they eat non veg a lot etc etc. I say look at Sami and the fixers Amir and Asif. They look as if they are on hunger strike since last 10 years.Compare them with our VRV Singh and Pankaj Singh. Its like Laurel and Hardy. :giggle: Stamina and Fitness of our pace bowlers too is good.Bowlers like Munaf but he is bad fielder and hence comes across as lazy.Players with bad stamina cannot play 5 day cricket in such heat.Such bowlers who are lazy fielders are there in most teams.I know that umpires get tired after umpiring by standing in such heat even in 50 overs. That is lack of fitness., playing 20,50,3 day,4 day and 5 day cricket is in no way a job on unfit people. These cricketers are fit.We can say they may not be athletic.Every team has fitness issues with pace bowlers, not just India.See how many Aussie pacers get injured every year.Cummins,Patto,Bird,Starc,Harris in same year (2012) One problem could be having cricketing idols and way cricket is portrayed here. Our country has produced many great batters which no other country has produced.Whereas some other countries have produced pace bowling greats.maybe having role models in specific skill of cricket can be a motivation.
