play Raina in the subcontinent. dont play him outside the sub. How hard is that to understand?
Too much pressure on unsettled player who hasn't yet cemented their spot to come straight in and play their natural way in the world cup. If someone new has to come in their spot has to be cemented by the time World Cup comes around so the player plays their natural way rather than for their spot.

What about the drops in NZ? The first drop was Rahane's fault when he tried to take a catch which was of Dhawan. These drops are costing us a matches and series.
no doubt that they are. I am just saying that the dew was to blame for a lot of it yesterday. The likes of Rahane for eg are very good fielders. Our slip fielding is very suspect at test level. I fully agree to that.

Both drops by Jadeja were very tough chances. Credit to him that he converted them into chances at all. First drop by Dhawan was because of bad communication between him and Rahane. The noise level was high in the stadium and sometimes it can happen. But communication between fielders should improve as we saw a similar situation between Rayudu and Shami in the previous game. The last catch dropped by Dhawan was very easy and should have been taken. As for test matches, slip catching is actually not easy and comes with experience. Especially in conditions like SA or NZ, it can be tricky to judge the pace or bounce at which the ball is coming for fielders who are not used to it.

We are in australia for nearly 3 months. first the test matches, then the ODI series v England and Aus , then some warm ups, then a group stage in which India basically just have to beat the minnows. Last time i looked at it, thats like 12 matches (internationals and warms ups) in Australia for India to get their mojo right. For all the hoo ha, its 3 matches that matter. QF, Semi Final.....in the case of the 2015 world cup there is plenty of time for India to get adjusted.

IMO calling when going for a catch comes under the absolute basics you are taught at school/club level. Some of the guys in are team are very good fielders - Rahane, Kohli, Rohit, Jadeja etc but even they tend to drop catches so what can we expect from the not-so-good fielders like Ashwin?

In ODIs he is one of the greatest batsmen ever' date=' of course he was missed. But that doesn't mean that we should overlook his overseas test performance, both as a skipper and as a batsman.[/quote'] No Indian wicketkeeper batsman in history has averaged 30 in tests and Dhoni averages close to 40. When he stops playing tests and see other mediocre wk batsmen play for India, you will regret saying he should be dropped overseas in tests. Its not a joke to keep wickets for 150 overs or a couple of days and still have the stamina and concentration to bat well in tests.

Seamers did well in CT but its the spinners who bowl for us in the middle overs and if they dont do well, we will struggle to choke the runs and allow partnerships to build. We dont play a fourth seamer. Hence, spinners become crucial and in conditions which have nothing for spinners, bowling attack usually struggles like what happened in NZ. Its better to gamble and go with 4 regular seamers and 1 spinner in overseas conditions than playing 2 spinners. But we should also ask the question. Do we have 4 good seamers for ODIs ?
No seamer will do worse than what Ashwin did in NZ averaging a great 227. I believe Rishi Dhawan can be a very handy 4th seamer who can bat too, bowls pretty much in BK mold.

so he should give up captaincy and concentrate on his keeping and batting. Too many hats for MSD

Look cricket has changed. Before teams picked a pure keeper and if batted that's bonus All changed in last 20 years You will find most countries have keeper/batsman who is averaging better then any other in their previous history. Wether its prior, gilly etc etc Dhoni must be dropped from overseas tests

We wouldn't have missed him much if Dhoni was there but I think the replacement in the squad should have been Raina' date=' Rayudu could have kept wickets - DK hasn't been good anyway.[/quote'] Rayudu would have given 30 extra runs as a keeper. The ball here tends to keep low and turns as well. Very tricky for a non regular keeper.
