On current form, Mitchell Johnson by a country mile, there's no comparison... Its pretty unfair to compare one bowler when hes in the form of his life to a bowler who is just in regular form though. Steyn has had by far the better career, if you compare them overall, but at this very moment, no bowler can compare to the sheer brutal pace and deadly accuracy and intent of Johnson. You notice Steyn slip into mediocre defensive spells when things don't go his way, you don't see that from Johnson, he bowls at 100% intensity from ball 1 to ball 100, regardless of the match situation, a captain's dream.

Not really... Look at the very inexperienced shaky batting line-up Steyn is bowling to... Johnson got his 7/68 against the best batting lineup in the world. If Johnson got to bowl to the Aussie batting line-up he'd take 10/10 :winky: :cantstop:

Regarding the original topic, MJ is going through the form of his life. Steyn is an all time great who has been at the top of his game for many years. In this game, MJ is doing better than Steyn but MJ has to bowl like this for many years to be compared to Steyn.

To be fair ... The Mitchell Johnson since 2013 does that ... The Johnson of 2009 vs England or 2010/11 vs England, or the one in 2012 against South Africa at Perth (2nd innings) started to slip into mediocre spells. I wouldn't even call them defensive ... It was just wide filth. The Johnson right now is unplayable and by far and away the best bowler on current form. Imo, the Johnson vs. Steyn debate is a bit like the Lara vs. Sachin debate. On their best day, Lara was more destructive than Sachin ... but if you had to pick one over the course of a long series, you'd probably pick Sachin for the consistency. Similar thing with Johnson vs. Steyn.
