akshayxyz Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Gravity was a pretty good movie but to me it seemed like a made-for-Oscar movie. Nowadays directors know very well what kind of a movie they have to make in order to win an Oscar. The best and most recent example can be Argo. You can't make movies like Gravity - if all you aim for is an Oscar. And I am saying that when I did not enjoy gravity that much as a whole package. But the visual effects /execution are ground breaking.
SLICKR392 Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Al has stronger contenders. Art carney is a comedian, played a much different role and played it naturally but al taken the method acting too far in godfather. could be a decisive factor. He fine tuned it in Scent of Women. I just checked the nominees for supporting cast, I ve seen the Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, Jeff Bridges played an absolutely loveable role , like the dude lebowski. Yes, de niro doesnot deserve. Looks like that year is a blunder too, :giggle: Check out the '93 awards. I have watched Fugitive and Tom Lee Johns probably won it for that speech which only gives goose bumps to 'Muricans. And DiCaprio did this in the same year. Nominated, but robbed. I think that was the only year DiCaprio was robbed of an Oscar. There were better candidates during his other nominations. My favorite Leo performance till date. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EejUcrRgEsE]Gilbert Grape - Leonardo Dicaprio 3 - YouTube[/ame] P.S : Big fan of 'The Dude'. How awesome was that movie. :two_thumbs_up:

How is Gravity a made for oscars movie You can make that argument for 12 years a slave, Dallas buyers club etc. Made for Oscar movies would reference to Gays/homophobia,Racism,WW2,Patriotism,Environment protection etc Tell me which Oscar sterotype did Gravity touch on? It was a brilliant concept brought to screen with some brilliant filmmaking. If you break it down then obviously every story is about the hero beating all odds
maniac Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 That's not how you said it. :winky: Yeah let us try to look up the special effect teams that was responsible for Jurrasic Park and Avatar instead of Spielberg and Cameron's vision everytime we reference those movies :giggle:
SLICKR392 Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Yeah let us try to look up the special effect teams that was responsible for Jurrasic Park and Avatar instead of Spielberg and Cameron's vision everytime we reference those movies :giggle: Please do that rather than undermining their efforts.
maniac Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Please do that rather than undermining their efforts. No one is undermining their efforts.....They were the unsung heroes but at the end of the day it is the director's vision plain and simple.
diga Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 yeah. IIRC I read that Pacino didn't attend the Oscars that year in protest because he thought he also should have been nominated for Best Actor. http://www.businessinsider.in/The-Unbelievable-Story-Of-Why-Marlon-Brando-Rejected-His-1973-Oscar-For-The-Godfather/articleshow/31114957.cms Seems Marlon Brando rejected the oscar & did not attend the oscars..

He is the real winner, not Leo. He is as scary as Anton Chigurh in that movie. The problem is Leo went full retard in that movie. He was too real that it makes you think that the actor is actually retarded. Academy hates this kind. Remainds me of a quote from Tropic Thunder. Downey Jr was right it seems. :cantstop: Kirk Lazarus: Everybody knows you never go full retard. Tugg Speedman: What do you mean? Kirk Lazarus: Check it out. Dustin Hoffman, 'Rain Man,' look retarded, act retarded, not retarded. Counted toothpicks, cheated cards. Autistic, sho'. Not retarded. You know Tom Hanks, 'Forrest Gump.' Slow, yes. Retarded, maybe. Braces on his legs. But he charmed the pants off Nixon and won a ping-pong competition. That ain't retarded. Peter Sellers, "Being There." Infantile, yes. Retarded, no. You went full retard, man. Never go full retard. You don't buy that? Ask Sean Penn, 2001, "I Am Sam." Remember? Went full retard, went home empty handed...
