Prudent
New Delhi: India batsman Sachin Tendulkar is most likely to be named India's Test captain for the upcoming series against Pakistan.Even as the Indian selectors are all set to announce the Indian team for the first two One-Dayers against Pakistan later on Saturday, CNN-IBN has learnt that the selectors might opt to go for a split captaincy for Tests and One-Dayers. The selectors, who are observing emerging talents in the ongoing Challenger Series, had a very long thought about the Test captaincy, and it seems that they have decided to go for split captaincy. Sachin Tendulkar has reportedly agreed to take over the Test captaincy. He will be the captain for the next 10 Test matches — three against Pakistan, four against Australia in Australia and three against South Africa at home — until April 2008. http://www.cricketnext.com/news/tendulkar-likely-to-be-indias-test-captain/27635-13.html Link to comment
bigdhoni7
it was either srt or kumble. dhoni is not ready for test captiancy. Link to comment
bharat297
Seriously , why did Sachin agree to this when he knows how it affects his form? Laxman, Ganguly or even Dhoni would have been much much better captaincy options. Link to comment
jf1gp_1
and this is why we will never be the No 1 team in world. Link to comment

I think you would agree with me when i say Sachin becoming captain is a step back. I have no problems with Sachin being the captain i hate the fact that we had to return to someone who has given up captaincy in past. Selectors, board noone has any clue as to what will happen 3 months down the lane. I knew this pawar will mess up things and he has. Corrupt MF is a disease. A money sucking leach who can never have any fcuken principals. How old is he 70 ?? Fcuker Powar time to start collecting wood not counting 2011 WC money. We have such a vast pool of talent which is just being wasted. Right now i am so pissed off that i want Pak to whitewash us 3-0 in test. Link to comment

Bumper
Wow, what a reward for averaging 31 over two years. Funny that Dhoni hasnt been appointed captain, due to his apparent poor test exploits (Avg of 34 vs non minnows) in the same period. Hypocrisy at best! I was just done praising the selectors for getting the ODI squad right & i see this. Absolutely retarded move, one that will reset our cricket by a decade. Link to comment
Ram
This is Tendulkar's retirement gift. If he is appointed captain after all , then i am sure he asked for it , rather than it being a natural choice. Tendulkar's captaincy sucks. He is a master-bat but a pathetic captain. Someone who insists on being politically correct in everything they do and say can never be an effective leader. He will have the respect of his mates , but never their fear. Link to comment
coffee_rules
I like this idea. Won;t happen. If Dhoni can captain with the help of SRT/Ganguly in ODIs, he can do the tests with SRT/Dravid. Link to comment
Ram
The truth is , Dhoni's place in the test team itself isnt certain. Dont forget the immense pressure he was in , in the first test match against england at lords , when he came with this match-saving performance.I dont know how the selectors could possibly appoint someone who isnt even a certainty in the eleven as captain. And the way Parthiv has been batting off late , if he improves his keeping sufficiently enough , it would be very hard to keep him out for long. Before the English test series , Dhoni's test form was nothing worth shouting about. But quoting his test performances against his captaincy reeks of hypocrisy. What is Tendulkar's average since Ind-SL 2005 series vs non-minnows ? A grand 31.75. He is our WORST TOP ORDER BATSMAN, absolutely the very worst, interms of averages against non minnows. With these numbers i wouldnt even give him a test spot, leave alone test captaincy. ludhianvi
I dont like the idea of this. Perhaps its just a temporary thing but just IMAGINE how Tendulkar will bat NOW. Link to comment
Bumper
Here is Dhoni vs Tendulkar head-to-head stats since Dhoni's entry into tests Top line Sachin, Bottom Dhoni. Dhoni is atleast as good as Sachin, against every major opponent, except SA. So much for Dhoni's weaknesses in Tests. And dont forget that he is a wicket keeping allrounder, which makes arguments against his test spot, even more ridiculous. v Bangladesh 2 3 1 254 122* 101 31 127.00 2 0 0 2 3 2 104 51* 36 17* 104.00 0 1 0 v England 6 11 1 311 91 82 37 31.10 0 2 0 6 10 1 315 92 76* 64 35.00 0 3 1 v Pakistan 3 3 0 63 26 23 14 21.00 0 0 0 3 3 0 179 148 18 13 59.66 1 0 0 v South Africa 3 6 0 199 64 63 44 33.16 0 2 1 2 4 0 104 47 34 18 26.00 0 0 0 v Sri Lanka 3 5 0 189 109 23 22 37.80 1 0 0 3 5 1 149 51* 49 30 37.25 0 1 0 v West Indies 0 - - - - - - - - - - 4 7 0 168 69 29 20 24.00 0 1 0 Who says Dhoni cannot play outside India ? in Bangladesh 2 3 1 254 122* 101 31 127.00 2 0 0 2 3 2 104 51* 36 17* 104.00 0 1 0 in England 3 6 0 228 91 82 37 38.00 0 2 0 3 5 1 209 92 76* 36 52.25 0 2 1 in India 6 10 1 272 109 34 28* 30.22 1 0 0 6 10 1 255 64 51* 49 28.33 0 2 0 in Pakistan 3 3 0 63 26 23 14 21.00 0 0 0 3 3 0 179 148 18 13 59.66 1 0 0 in South Africa 3 6 0 199 64 63 44 33.16 0 2 1 2 4 0 104 47 34 18 26.00 0 0 0 in West Indies 0 - - - - - - - - - - 4 7 0 168 69 29 20 24.00 0 1 0 Link to comment
