video removed
I have read somewhere that this video has nothing to do with MH 370. It is a generic video of rough and high sea captured at some other point of time at some other location, which is wrongly being portrayed as vide from hunt of MH 370. But looking at the news reports, situation wouldn't have been much better for ships actually hunting MH 370. So it is more like representative video.

Pilot is under suspicion

"The personal life of Zaharie Shah, however, is far more complex and is in the process of being unravelled." His background is coming under closer scrutiny after it emerged he supported the recently jailed political opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim and that his marriage seemed to be under strain. He was no longer in a relationship with Faizah but they still lived together with their children. The hard drive of his flight simulator seized from his home was being examined. It emerged that programmes on it were deleted and that he used it to practise extreme landings, including on remote Indian Ocean islands, such as the US air base in Diego Garcia. Another development, reported in the Mail on Sunday, was that investigators were examining reports of a two-minute call from a mystery woman Shah received before the plane took off. The mobile phone number was allegedly obtained under a false identity. The Sim card was said to have been trace to a number in Kuala Lumpur. The timing of the call intensified scrutiny on Shah to establish whether missing MH370 flight was involved in a hijacking attempt or a catastrophic accident.

Appears as if the investigators could be looking for an easy scapegoat Video - Richard Quest defends pilots *** On the stolen passports, Malaysia did not use Interpol's database
While some countries consult the database more than a hundred million times a year, “in 2014 prior to the tragic disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH 370, Malaysia's Immigration Department did not conduct a single check of passengers' passports against Interpol's databasesâ€
*** On the search area, it keeps on changing, along with some of the calculations

Well at this point of time the pilot are likely to be top suspects if they are going with Sabotage angle If this intentional it had to be done by a person who knows in of the plane very well so if they have have got no evidence that any off others have pilot skills it would be bit unlikely that would happened With flight path and information we received it seems unlikely to some kind of failure in plane or there was decompression which is also a possibility Other than that I can't think of much maybe some kind hacking into plane system , its rather strange to think even in this age it has been so difficult to locate the plane

I am less inclined to believe decompression theory. A decompression at that height would rarely happen without an explosion which would have consumed plane completely right at the moment and plane would have broken into pieces at that height itself. Kanishka which had gone down in atlantic in 1983 had failed because of decompression caused by an explosion in the craft which resulted in a rupture in the fuselage. I would rule out decompression theory in general because of the fact plane was in operation for long after that. However loss of pressure in cockpit might still be the possibility. My best guess at this point is, Highjacking went wrong.

Decompression has happened before in couple planes before the one from US I believe kept on flying till its gas got over and then crashed Other one was Helios you can read from the link (it seems I am unable post as I am only couple days here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helios_Airways_Flight_522 Hijacking is also a possibility but looks a bit odd that hijackers would do such good job with disabling communication but then then go wrong by navigation and also nobody claiming responsibility or the lack of suspects

As for hijacking, we don't know what went wrong on the plane so we cannot assume that since someone did a good job of disabling the communication systems (which pilots could have done too under threat), things would go right with other aspects as well (pilots could have fooled hijackers in some way :dontknow: )There arereasons to not claim responsibility (many of them were discussed on this thread iirc) esp. if the hijacking went wrong

Malaysia ready for possibility that MH370 will never be found
KUALA LUMPUR, March 31 — The Malaysian government has a contingency plan should missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 never be located, Acting Transport Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein confirmed today. But Hishammuddin declined to reveal any details of such plans, saying it would be unfair to the families of the 239 people on board the plane that went missing on March 8. “We have discussed it, but I think to be fair to the families, that is something we will not share at this moment because our focus is to find the aircraft,” he told reporters at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here. He was responding to questions on whether a “backup plan” existed in the event that no debris linked to the missing plane is found.

This is ridiculous I know Malaysian airline didn't buy the service for tracking from Boeing. Shouldn't it be made Required if you buy as a part of airline. This looks like a flaw to me now since you cant even track the flight. Is their any accountability on Boeing's part ?

The SWIFT system upgrade costs only $10 per flight (wholesale). I am not sure how much it would cost the airlines as it would probably have to pay for services. Link
The upgrade, which wholesales for about $10 per flight, would have provided investigators with the direction, speed and altitude of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 even after other communications from the plane went dark, said a satellite industry official familiar with the equipment.
Although there are no industry-wide standards for aviation, in the maritime industry all ships must carry an advanced tracking system known as the Long Range Information and Tracking system, which enables satellites to follow the movements of vessels as they traverse the globe. If a ship goes down, rescue crews will know which area to concentrate their search.

From the link you posted. So no hope to even find the Malaysian airplane then.
It took almost two years — from June 2009 to May 2011 — before the wreckage of the Air France flight was found on a plateau more than 11,000 feet deep in the Atlantic off the coast of Brazil. With no hint of where the Malaysian plane might have gone down, Gallo said that perhaps the only hope it will be found rests on the discovery of some floating debris.

Best chance is if the ping from the black box is picked up. But time is running out as well as the battery is expected to last for a few more days only (less than a week now iirc). No wonder, Malaysia has started to work on its "back-up" plan

CNN is reporting the pings too. One 3 days back and another one yesterday afternoon which lasted for 90 secs. The big search ship which can verify that the plane is below will reach the place 14 hours from now
