putrevus Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 ACtually Kallis is overrated on ICF and other forums(for obvious reasons)....to me he belongs in the Sanga category...an ATG' date='MVP for his team but just not good enough to be voted as oncein a lifetime player.[/quote'] Right a man with 43 hundreds and most of them coming on pitches where other ATGs barely looked okay and 287 test wickets is certainly overrated.
Yoda-esque Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Even they would be embarrassed if they got the award ahead of Sachin . Also these awards just like oscars and filmafare are popularity contests anyways, SRT is the complete package to win this How do you know that? Anyways SRT gets it for longevity ,The ones I mentioned for impact

Sanga has a mega average too but do you think he belongs in the same league as SRT or Warne? Yes Kallis is an ATG,one of the finest players but he would neither win the best batsman, bowler or for the matter of fact the best AR category even if they were individual awards
Yoda-esque Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Any plausible reason the ones you mention didn't bat/are bowlers - I wonder a wee bit. More Value to the team
CSK Fan Posted March 14, 2014 Author Posted March 14, 2014 How do you know that? Anyways SRT gets it for longevity ,The ones I mentioned for impact Yes, SRT get for longevity. That's what Crowe said in his summary of course. It's almost as if the word longevity is used to put down Sachin as if it's a negative thing Sachin has had as much impact as those two players you mentioned and would have had more wins with a better team. All those draw test matches he was involved in There is a reason Sachin figures in almost every of all time great lists. List by Bradman, by Wisden no matter how much you might dislike this fact And no, this has nothing to do with longevity as some of them were before he played for so long

maniac Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 More Value to the team To his team yes but not on the world stage......This will make you happy but I always maintained Dhobi is India's biggest MVP since Kapil Dev but he won't even be in the top 5 ATG WK-Batsman list. Same logic applies to Kallis

zen Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Sachin has had as much impact as those two players you mentioned and would have had more wins with a better team. All those draw test matches he was involved in Fans do realize that any player would have a better record with a better team. However, based on the ability to turn games and deliver in big games - Warne probably edges the other two on the list. Also when it comes to his peers, Warne is more unique (hard to find another spinner who would be a potent force on a variety of surfaces, while you can list a few batsmen who could substitute for either Ten or Kallis)

CSK Fan Posted March 14, 2014 Author Posted March 14, 2014 Martin Crowe's comments When Warne bowled to Tendulkar it was like watching a volcano erupt. The heat was at it its greatest, exploding forth. Tendulkar on his day was that eruption. No one has ever forgotten it. Cricket is not just about performance. It's also about life. It's about how you leave an imprint on the young: the imprint of integrity, of honesty and of gratitude. Sachin Tendulkar lived this quality all his life and he shared it with us all, as only he could. It can then be said, without hesitation or demurring, that the greatest cricketer of the last 20 years is that little master from Maharashtra, the man who sailed away with every record and every heart, due to the love of a father, and of a game that fulfilled his soul.
maniac Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Really? Your opinion should make me happy? No just the fact that you found atleast one random post that had Dhoni and MVP mentioned in the same sentence :--D Anyways...Why wasn't Murali a part of the list?I know there is a stigma of being a chucker but highest test and ODI wickets of all time, carried his team singlehandedly in test matches,Definetely worth a mention....Rate him above Kallis for sure.
zen Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 The Jury Russel Arnold - Sachin Sambit Bal - Sachin Habibul Bashar- Sachin Ian Bell - Sachin Rahul Bhattacharya - Sachin Harsha Bhogle - Sachin Lawrence Booth Geoffrey Boycott - Sachin Daniel Brettig Mark Butcher Ian Chappell Aakash Chopra - Sachin Ed Cowan Mike Coward Tony Cozier Martin Crowe - Sachin Daryll Cullinan George Dobell Rahul Dravid - Sachin Jeffrey Dujon Ramachandra Guha - Sachin Gideon Haigh Michael Holding David Hopps Tamim Iqbal - Sachin Mahela Jayawardene Gaurav Kalra - Sachin Akram Khan - Sachin Athar Ali Khan - Sachin Younis Khan VVS Laxman - Sachin Ranjan Madugalle Sanjay Manjrekar - Sachin Suresh Menon - Sachin Andrew Miller Mark Nicholas Iain O'Brien Mike Procter Ramiz Raja - Sachin Barry Richards Mark Richardson - Sachin Osman Samiuddin Kumar Sangakkara Mike Selvey Ed Smith Heath Streak - Sachin Mark Taylor Sharda Ugra - Sachin John Wright - Sachin Waqar Younis Probably votes - before even the voting begins Sachin has like 40% in :giggle:

Appears as if they took one from each category - batsman, bowler and all-rounder
putrevus Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 What is point of longevity if you are not performing, Sachin did jack after world cup in 2011 and he was playing on as if performance matters nothing as long as he was enjoying the game. This notion that Sachin did not win more because he was on bad team is bunch of baloney, Did anyone stop Sachin from hitting two centuries in the same test or scoring more than 500 runs in 3 test series.

putrevus Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 so we should forget about the previous 22 years' date='right?[/quote'] no you don't but longevity alone should not be the reason for any award.
Sachin=GOD Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 no you don't but longevity alone should not be the reason for any award. this has been discussed hundreds of times on ICF so I'm not going to do it again :nice:
putrevus Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 this has been discussed hundreds of times on ICF so I'm not going to do it again :nice: I am not either but this award had nowhere to go but to him and that is the biggest joke thats all.
zen Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 no you don't but longevity alone should not be the reason for any award. Agree - In films, it would be similar to giving Dev Anand (one of my favs) the best leading man for longevity - major hits: Baazi (1951) to Des Pardes (1978). While overlooking the impact guys like Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachaan made in the 70s and early 80s (relatively shorter period vs. Dev Sahab's). And when Dev's peers such as Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar were playing role of elders from 70s (though in Dilip's case still leading in films like Vidhata, Karma, etc.). Not to mention that impact Raj and Dilip made at their peak.
