He is bowling in an era where cricket is all about batting. Smaller boundaries, Flat decks, heavy bats still he is the lone gunslinger. No bowler even come close to what Steyn is doing in all 3 formats.

The point is those past generation bowlers bowled in a much helpful conditions where cricket was only tests and ODI's. Mind you, ODI's were no where as slam bang as of today's generation. So we can never say for certainty how much successful the ex bowlers would have in this era. Steyn has proved himself time and again in all formats, all conditions and against all opponents. I rate him the best. As far as Wasim is concerned, he was bit of a tailender bully to be honest.
