My grandfather from my mother's side lost two of his brothers(both professors at that time) and their families(brutally tortured and killed over 2 days..even babies weren't spared...later Muslim neighbors helped in funeral arrangement for the bodies) before deciding to leave everything behind in Chittagong and move to West Bengal. He used to work for a high level German co. at that time and used his contacts to basically ship his whole family(22 members) overnight to Calcutta. I heard some horrific stories especially targeting women in colleges. Google atrocities committed in Jagannath hall during '71. Bone chilling. Hindus were massively targeted because a: They are Hindus & b: Many intellectuals were being eliminated and Hindus were major part of the intellectual community. Some of these stories I've heard growing up are eerily similar to the Jewish Holocaust stories of survival. Local jamaati members who were sympathetic to the cause helped Pak army locate many intellectuals and their homes. Google Selina Parvin - Editior & journalist abducted and tortured and god knows what was done to her by the Jamaati members. She was one of the prominent supporters of the pro-liberation movement. Her body was found in one of the killing fields after independence.

I cant believe that so many Bengali Hindus chose to be part of a Mullah Republic in 1947 while the Hindus/Sikhs on the Western Side migrated en masses to India, fully aware of the treatment that will be meted to them in the future if they are left in Pakistan.

I always thought that it was mostly North Indians who faced most of the brunt cuz of partition and could understand that hate by elders towards Pakistan as they suffered most cuz of partition. However, it seems like even Bengalis went through the same violence and bloodshed
