(AFP Photo) KARACHI: Senior all-rounder Shahid Afridi has blamed the negative mindset of the team for Pakistan's defeat at the hands of the West Indies in the must-win league match of the ICC World Twenty20 in Bangladesh. The defeat to the West Indies knocked Pakistan out of the tournament with former players and critics lashing out at the team for its appalling batting performance. "It is the negative mindset of the players that brought about our downfall," Afridi told reporters after returning here from Dhaka along with coach Moin Khan and cricket consultant Zaheer Abbas. Afridi without taking names dropped a clear hint that he was ready to accept the challenge of captaincy if given the chance. "Look we just have to change our mindset and be fearless and positive. Ok we conceded lot of runs in the last few overs but it was still a gettable target for us but our batsman just played with the wrong attitude," Afridi insisted. "In T20 or any other cricket you need to have a positive approach," he noted. Afridi said there was no major problem with the team as it had some very good players who had won matches for Pakistan before against top sides. "These same players performed well when we beat Australia so we have the right ployers but not the right attitude," he felt. The all-rounder said he didn't think captaincy was a major issue but changing the attitude of the players was a big one. "Obviously one can understand the disappointment and anger of the people after the way we performed against the West Indies and we have to see where we went wrong," he said. Asked if he would be willing to accept the captaincy, Afridi said for Pakistan cricket he was ready to take up any role or challenge. Ayything is possible in Pakistan Cricket. Luckily BCCI has a media gag on players speaking their mind out!

But, considering the lack of any one in the team who has nerves to stand some pressure, he is not a bad choice. Who else, Hafeez , Shaoib, Akmals ??? FGS. In some years, if Shehzad showed some leadership qualities, he could be the one to take over.

Even Misbah is a sensible captain but the amount of stick he gets from your own fans is amazing. And if I'm not wrong Sethi has already appointed Misbah as a skipper till 2015 yet Afridi is craving for the leadership this is 2nd or 3rd time he's said that he wants or is ready for captaincy.

These buffoons look like fools, talk like fools and play like fools, but aspire for the laurels only the very elite can lay claim to. And its even more fun to listen to the arm chair b00bs aka jokers who makeup the Pak sports media on why their coveted team lost for the millionth time. Their cricket pundits aka Shoaib Chuckthar, Kameez Bhoja and Beqar Younis judge their players based on a grand total of one game (which usually happens to be the last game). If you drop and pick players based on the suggestions of these morons, you will have a revolving door of random guys walking in and out of the dressing room. And funnily, it's always the missing mental strength, lack of will power, lack of courage, negative mindset etc that brought the team down. It's never the case of imbeciles passing them off as frontline batsmen, jumping out of the crease one after the other and getting stumped or mindlessly swiping the bat with eyes closed that could have contributed to the debacle. The only bigger fools than these players and their management, is the bookies who'd think of paying these guys to lose.

This idiot can only slog and has more chances of being successful in t20s than ODIs or tests so for him t20 is everything. Decent cricketers usually quit T20 and then ODIs to concentrate on test cricket and he is working other way around.

And generally bowlers are not considered ideal candidates because they tend to underbowl or overbowl themselves. They are also more prone to injuries& need to be rested/ rotated say in a long tour.

Debutant Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 He should be the captain. He has earned the respect of his peers, has great leadership qualities, is fearless, one of the best in the world in every department (bowling, batting and fielding) and not to mention his supernumerary fan following.
