someone Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 You want to buffer and plan for all eventualities right? A year ago would anybody have said the JD(u) and RJD would be in alliance? Yet that happened. Look nobody is saying next election time you fight it out with the INLD. Its only fair the BJP grow their share. The point is to stop the INLD from forming a potential alliance with the Congress. By all mean fight elections alone. But post elections throw the INLD enough scraps to make sure they dont think about making a deal with the congress. You have a weird thinking there. What's next, you are gonna say BJP should ally with AAP ? There has to be mutual benefits for both parties to have an alliance and even some compatibility between parties. You just can't go on linking any two parties together. BJP got the mandate for itself and so it doesn't make sense to share it with INLD. And on JDU - RJD, their alliance is just for survival. Both are hardly compatible so will such alliance be sustainable is an important question. So no point in such comparison.

Throwing somebody some scraps is not the same as sharing power. INLD is like NCP the of sorts. They will combine with anybody if they feel the numbers are right. There is no political image. They just have the Jat vote. Thats is.

Clean image, excellent administrator and efficient. Should have been appointed long time back. It was a mistake IMO to give Jaitley two big portfolios. Considering Mr Jaitley's health it was a big mistake. I am glad it has been rectified. Jaitley can concentrate on the economy. Very happy with this appointment.

Thats not to say that BJP should just ignore Goa but I am sure Parikar will lend a hand in Goa when elections happen in 2017.

I dont think its fair to write the BJP off just cause Parikar has moved out from the state. If anything this is the first time a Goan has been given such a major central ministry? That has to be a major honour surely.

That is one sector where for me corruption takes a back seat. Take the Rafale contract. How long as it still taken? China has already build about 100 odd jet fighters in the time India finished its tendering process. You need swift efficient decisions more than anything. Your opponents will not accept an excuse that you dont have the conventional weapons because you are conducting a corruption inquiry. As a defense minister what I want from Parikar is a process which produces defining results. It means taking a tour of sites like Avadi and HA. I work for a defense firm in the UK and a few seniors who I talked to tell me Indian defense factories are still operated manually when the world has moved onto mechanization. It also means backing DRDO and giving them a lot more money for research. At the same time you need to change the culture at DRDO. Currently the culture at DRDO is such at once you reach a senior position to take it easy. New graduates do all the work. That needs to change. Major Short term fixes (A) Nuclear submarine program must be finished by 2020 with a 3000 km range SLBM integrated within 3 ballistic missile submarines. (B) Artillery for the army really need to be bulked up. (B) Ensuring the scorpene's finish on time. Our subs are falling apart © Executing the Rafale order quickly. India needs to have about 200 of these birds by 2020. Long term goals (A) Involving private sector players like Mahindra and Tata in the defense process. Giving them incentives. While FDI 100% is a noble idea, major defense firms are never really going to build their high end stuff (which india needs) in India for fear of espionage. (B) More cooperation with the Israelis. I think this will happen anyways. © Less cooperation with the Russians. Gorshkov must prove to everybody the Russians cannot be trusted to deliver projects on time. (D) Mechanizing Indian factories. Building capacity for rapid production.

G_B_ Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 yup we are bit you need multiple tests (5-6) before you induct something. So realistically India will need about 5 odd years to have those 3 subs. That includes tests of missiles etc and fully functional nuclear subs with heavily trained crew. By say 2018 India will need to be planning for a bigger variant of Arihant and move to a 12000-15000 class nuclear sub.
