adi B
last two assembly elections the bjp have polled a grand sum of 0 in the state In 1999 as well there was a spike in the lok sabha for the bjp when they came to power. in assembly elections there is no hope but certainly vote % can increase.its all about LS and people can tend to vote for national party

Sachin=GOD
so now rumor is sreedharan could be MOS Railways. also i heard BC Khandhuri could be brought back in through Rajya Sabha for minister of roads+transportation Yeah....they would have to give Railway to some politician so Sreedharan, if he comes in, can only get MoS. Sachin=GOD
Anand Ranganathan @ARangarajan1972 3m Quite incredible. In 17 of Gujarat's 26 seats, NOTA came third. In 5 seats it came fourth. So NOTA was 3rd or 2nd in 22 out of 26 constituencies.....basically there is no party other than BJP and Cong in Guj.

someone
Here is some data about votes in UP In 2009 Party - Total votes - % of votes cast - % of total voters - seats won BSP - 15,191,044 - 27.4% - 13.1% - 20 SP - 12,884,968 - 23.3% - 11.1% - 23 INC - 10,113,553 - 18.3% - 8.7% - 21 BJP - 9,696,024 - 17.5% - 8.4% - 10 Other - 7,521,518 - 13.6% - 6.4% - 6 In 2014 Party - Total votes - % of votes cast - % of total voters - seats won BSP - 15,914,044 - 19.6% - 11.4% - 0 SP - 17,988,792 - 22.2% - 12.9% - 5 INC - 6,061,236 - 7.5% - 4.4% - 2 BJP - 34,318,576 - 42.3% - 24.6% - 71 Other - ~ 6,788,500 - 8.4% - 4.9% - 2 A lot of things have struck out, firstly both BSP & SP vote count increased. And when you consider that with general population growth, BSP support neither increased or decreased whereas SP support actually increased and gained more. So both party got votes as expected and were still strong in UP. They did all their usual caste & religion calculation and were expecting a lot of seats as previous 2009. But what went wrong? Clearly, it all points to one single reason, the new votes. They definitely nearly all voted for BJP and that ultimately single handedly destroyed all the calculations done by BSP & SP. Both parties did not actually lose any of their support but new voters changed everything. The lesson and implication is clear, those parties which thrive on vote bank politics on religion/caste will face a true reality when voting gets to 60% or above. Basically, more people voting will lead to a defeat to such "sickular" parties.
G_B_
For me the telling feature was that the BJP won all SC seats in UP and even Maharashtra by bigger margins than even normal seats. Modi took a big chunk of the SC vote in these two states.
someone
For me the telling feature was that the BJP won all SC seats in UP and even Maharashtra by bigger margins than even normal seats. Modi took a big chunk of the SC vote in these two states. OBC factor worked big time there. Just to further elaborate on my previous post, had the overall voting percentage in likes of UP been similar as 2009, BJP would never have done as well as it has done currently. The likes of SP & BSP would have gathered much more seats with overall voting percentage at 45%. That crucial 10-15% increase this time destroyed all their calculations and really more people voting is the best solution to defeat such parties whom only ask for votes on religion/caste grounds.
