Would have been in government at centre with 3-4 key portfolios. 20 seats with ease. Instead is fighting to save his state government and be consigned to the annals of history. Is basically hemmed in from both side. Paswan+BJP and Congress+RJD. (3) BSP While SP have been thumped i believe they will be back. RLD will always be an add on to some major party. There has been a systematic erosion in her base. Atleast the SP have tasted power in recent times and have the organisational structure to continue in bad times. I wont be surprised if the BSP ends up like the RLD. (4) AIADMK. Many of you will dispute this with me. But the truth is AIADMK is unlikely to repeat its performance ever. They have never been part of the government at the centre in a meaningful way apart from the time she frustrated Atal Bihari in 1998. Whats the point of winning 30 plus seats and not be part of the government at the centre? DMK on the other hand seems to keep picking winners. They have been part of the centre before 2014 for nearly 15 years. The last time AIADMK went with the BJP they lost. Bad luck i would say. I am sure Amma was ready to drive a hard bargain. (5) Advani. Been basically shut out of the party now. Modi has performed and his powers are reduced. A ceremonial title awaits. BJP at 160-180 and he would have his chance. The door as been shut. Swaraj will probably get a good ministry. Nothing for Mr Advani of such a nature. His era is over. honorable mentions DMK (poor by any standards), SP and Communists (lol 2 seats in bengal???) atleast gained in Kerela. Winners (1) Team Modi. Dont need to say much. Includes Amit Shah. and those close to him like Raje in Rajasthan (2) Naveen Patnaik. What namo wave? Come rain or shine many forces have tried to breach fortress Orissa. He just keeps getting stronger. I think both the BJP will have to wait for the death of Patnaik. If he lives till he is 90. Good luck. There will probably be a hung parliament during his time. He will wait for that day to extract his pound of flesh. (3) Others members of team NDA. Nitish faltered Paswan gains. Sena posted their best tally ever despite the death of Bal T. People were wondering about the future of the sena. Well its been answered. Assembly elections Await. TDP, what can you say. Right choice at the right time. Naidu probably did not need the BJP to win seemandhra assembly. But now has a choice in national and local politics. Apna Dal. First i am hearing of them. Made a name for themselves. (4) Nitin Gadkari. The fat man is back from the dead. Now in line for a big post. Delivered Viderbha for NDA. The favorite of the RSS. BJP Presidency or big portfolio awaits. Is in this position despite not being in pro modi camp. honorable mentions Varun Gandhi (for winning on the Gandhi name, along with his mother starting to become part crucial part of team BJP in Uttar pradesh). The youngest secretary keeps adding to his stock. Mamata Bannerjee (rigged elections maybe but starting to dominate) TRS, plenty of seats and Rao gets to be undisputed CM. Was talking of merging his party with congress. Not going to happen lol.

When Indra Gandhi decided ban all regional parties during emergency MGR got scared and included All India in the name(Before it was only ADMK) and registered them as national party.

People in Orissa are usually anti-establishment, so Patnaik must be doing something good why Odiyas are voting for him day in and day out. Also BJD and BJP were partners not too long ago. Not sure what the split was all about. And he has some magic that appeals to the massive tribal population of Orissa. Of course his developmental efforts were blocked by center, that bastard -- Jairam Ramesh -- who blocked the Posco Steel Plant for 8 years. It has been approved but the cost has gone up by 20 - 30%. By this time the Posco Steel Plant should have been buzzing and rolling out steel, but for Jairam.
