His issues were with discrimination against Woman rights oppression of lower castes and self respect movement and those who were fooling people in the name of God. Problem was that all of these were practiced under the name of religion and God.So his reformism started with Athiesm and denouncing gods and more importantly those preaching religion and discrimination via it.Did he also burn the Bible and the Koran then ? I don't think so. He advocated conversion to Islam. How psecular of him.

Periyaar is projected as some one equal to gandhi in school tamil text books. Feminisim in TN is pioneered by Bharathiyaar, not periyaar. Dood involved in polygamy. Much of credit to TN's development shld go to Kamaraajar. He did made some executional blunders, but his contribution is unparalleled. Even MGR's macroeconomic reforms reduced poverty.

Barathiyar hardly contributed much apart from poetry as he died too young.I would even say his impact was more after his death after Periyar and Dravidan parties started using his songs in their speeches and meetings

G_B_ Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 leaving aside perriyar i wonder if the DMK will survive as a party. Looked at the TN results in detail and DMK were crushed by big margins in most other states. I feel a coalition with the BJP rainbow alliance is the only solution for them.
