The managers of outgoing Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh's official twitter handle PMOIndia have now renamed it as Dr Manmohan Singh @PMOIndiaArchive. Its bio/introduction says "Archival material under the RTI Act for @PMOIndia till 20/5/2014. @PMOIndia will be available shortly". The BJP which has returned to power under Narendra Modi is questioning the decision. According to a leading news agency ANI, the BJP said "Outgoing team PM Office has wrongly renamed Twitter handle of @PMOIndia against laws & accepted global norms of handover of digital assets". It argued that the post of the Prime Minister is permanent and nobody has exclusive right over what a Prime Minister does in his official capacity during his term in the office. Arvind Gupta,BJP IT Cell Head said,"In an unethical manner they renamed @PMOIndia accnt,should have archived the tweets & handed over the handle." Original handle has a million followers, new one has 6000!
BeautifulGame Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 A row erupted on Tuesday over the Prime Minister's Office moving to a new Twitter handle with all its contents just days before Narendra Modi takes charge, inviting an angry reaction from BJP which termed the move "illegal and disgraceful". The PMO Twitter handle was changed from @PMOIndia to @PMOIndiaArchive, automatically transferring its content and 1.24 million followers to the new account. Also an independent Twitter handle @PMOIndia appeared after the PMO relinquished it. BJP said the orginial Twitter handle was a "national digital asset" and did not belong to Manmohan Singh and that it should have been handed over to the new dispensation as it was. "All our official communications are being archived according to the RTI Act. Copyrights and control remain with the office. This is an office account and the office continues to manage it," communication adviser to the outgoing PM Manmohan Singh Pankaj Pachauri said on the move. Too much noise over nothing

The old tweets of when he was the CM of Gujarat would still be there. Would look weird on a PM's twitter handle. It would be nice to handover the same account, but hell with it, just create a new twitter handle.

(maybe) WHy couldnt the BJP start a new twitter handle? PMOIndia14# or something ? Just start afresh...? The 1.24 billion followers of the old account would just need about 2 minutes to follow the new one if they care at all... I feel its making a mountain out of a molehill...
