Govt to slap additional penalty of $578 mn on RIL The fine is being imposed for producing less-than-targeted natural gas from KG-D6 block The government plans to impose an additional penalty of $578 million on Reliance Industries for producing less-than-targeted natural gas from its eastern offshore KG-D6 block. The penalty in the form of disallowing costs incurred on the field will be for missing the target in 2013-14, a government source said. With this, the total costs disallowed will increase to $2.375 billion. The government had previously issued a notice to RIL disallowing a total of $1.797 billion in costs for falling short of production during 2010-11 ($457 million), 2011-12 ($548 million) and 2012-13 ($792 million). RIL, which disputed the levy and initiated arbitration against the government, did not respond to an e-mail seeking comment.

Sectors which have been employment intensive during 2000s include wearing apparel, Furniture and Leather Products, Motor Vehicles, rubber products and Electrical Equipment
http://rbidocs.rbi.org.in/rdocs/Publications/PDFs/06WPSN240614.pdf I have already seen news of committees being set up on rubber and electronics. Clothing and autos are the big ones obviously. If Jobs, Jobs, Jobs is the slogan, then I expect some of the budget focus to be on the above sectors.

What is your view on Gopal Subramaniam issue? I am sure you are aware of it.
Gopal Subramaniam issue seems to be a very sensitive issue and central government has to take all the decisions very cautiously. Shady past always comes back to haunt you and this applies to both the parties. There are two things, Gopal Subramaniam has blamed the Supreme Court, the Government of India and since the recommendation was signed by President of India so he is blaming Pranab Mukherjee also this is too much of blaming. His shady past of violating protocol by meeting with the lawyer for A Raja, Neera Radia case cannot be overlooked. Similarly Modi government will have to comeout of the insecurity that any person related to UPA should be sidelined will not work. You will have to work with them as promised by the PM of India in his opening speech. Walk the Talk, the onus is on the government.
