He is also, obviously, the only Indian on the list. At 22, he has fallen six places from the list released in 2013, although it is still better than his 31st rank in 2012. He still ended up making more money than the likes of Wayne Rooney, Usain Bolt and basketball player Dwayne Wade. Dhoni's total earnings, according to the magazine, have come down from US$31.5 million in 2013 to $30 million. The most striking part of Dhoni's presence in this list is the money he has made through endorsements. According to Forbes, $26 million of his earnings have come through endorsements. Only seven athletes have made more endorsement money in the period of July 2013 to May 2014. Roger Federer - with $52 million made through endorsements and only $4.5 million through salary and winnings - and Bolt - with $23 million in endorsements and $300,000 in winnings - lead those with a stark endorsement-to-earnings ratio. Stunningly, boxer Floyd Mayweather earned the most in the qualifying period - $105 million - without any endorsements. He has risen from No. 14 to No. 1 this year. Footballers Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi follow Mayweather at the top, sandwiching basketball player LeBron James at No. 3. M$D becos the wealth-secured is stupendously tremendous for the average talent he has, and IS because he has decent wealth for no talent. No other cricketer will come close to the "luckiest" ratio.

No other cricketer will come close to the "luckiest" ratio. chawla is a decent cricketer but he has also amassed enough wealth through BCCI contracts since his debut in 2006, IPL and prize money for winning 2007 & 2011 WC and Champions trophy. ipl auction: 2008 : $400,000*3 2011 : $900,000*3 2014 : $720,000*3 (4.25 Cr INR) and hes only 25

Even Ranji players earn quite lot these days. for Ranji players it is very good. but for the national team players its peanuts compared to what BCCI makes like a few hundred crores or somthg for every series.

I think in context of earnings in India the pay is very very good. I prefer BCCI divert the funds to paying first class cricketers rather than fill the coffers of national players. The real stars have various avenues to supplement their earnings, eg. endorsements, IPL etc... For the various disasters BCCI leads itself into, the revision and improvement of first class player remuneration is one of the best things they have done. It has ensured that talented players can practically pursue a cricket career and have respectability. I agree with the infrastructure part though!!
