Texan Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 I personally do feel that they are unfair since a lot of it goes down to how good the goalkeeper is at guessing rather than football skills. Here's an alternative that I found somewhere. The only thing I would change is that instead of 1 player, take 2 players out at a time so as to hasten a result. This seems like a much better alternative to shootouts since a team would truly need their football skills to win a game. At the conclusion of regulation, there will be the following extra time sessions, with golden goal (i.e. the game ends following a score) in effect: 10 minutes of 11-on-11 (Team A starts with ball)* 10 minutes of 10-on-10 (Team B starts with ball) 10 minutes of 9-on-9 (Team B starts with ball) 10 minutes of 8-on-8 (Team A starts with ball) 10 minutes of 7-on-7 (Team A starts with ball) 10 minutes of 6-on-6 (Team B starts with ball) 10 minutes of 5-on-5 (Team B starts with ball) 10 minutes of 4-on-4 (Team A starts with ball) 10 minutes of 3-on-3 (Team A starts with ball) 10 minutes of 2-on-2 (Team B starts with ball) 10 minutes of 1-on-1 (Team B starts with ball) *If a team had been playing with 10 men during regulation, then that will only be enforced for the first extra time session, which would be 11-on-10. After that, only the team with 11 would remove a player, and it would be even strength for every session until a goal is scored. It’s simply too big a punishment to play a man down when you get to 8-on-7 situations, and having played all that time in regulation and the first period of extra time a man down seems like more than penalty enough. Fewer men on the field would result in more wide-open spaces, increasing the likelihood of a goal—a goal scored via passing and soccer-related team play against a team of defenders rather than via the artificial, foreign situation of a single player kicking a stationary ball from point-blank range on a single defender. Because all you need is one killer bowler in your team or beastly striker. In a team game like cricket individual brillance might vary.. There is some lottery involved. But in a penalty shootout anybody can score against any goal keeper. Individual talent means nothing. It is all down to temperament both for Goal keeper and players. It is fair. I have caused a loss to my team in my college. I kicked out of bounds :giggle: Not once we felt unfair. Because penalty kick is something part of actual football. Even inside a game you can get a penalty kick. But inside a cricket game you don't get a super over. That is designed just for result.

Most of the goalkeepers know fully well they can never react to ball at that short a distance so they make up their mind to dive left or right. It really comes down to guessing. A shooter also knows he can only get accuracy if it along the ground. Once he airs it he has very little control. Lot of luck is involved in shootout.

Sidhoni Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 What else can be done? Teams do practice it as well so you can't just call it pure luck though a fair bit of luck is involved but there are skills of the players especially for this part of the game.
